Hey JR,

I would try any store that sells them..Sounds like the power supply..But, did you try to unplug it first wait a few minutes, then plug it in again or try another outlet?? Also, is there a fuse in the power cord on in/on the unit iteslf??
If you have the owners manual, take a look..if not, do a web search via make & model number, should find a PDF file, download it..

Repair store in Puerto Plata:
passing Bournigal Clinic going in direction the Tax office; the first crossing after Bourningal, driving downhill; left hand on the corner. they are fast and prices are fair.

But first try what Anthony suggested, maybe you will be able to fix it yourself.

If you're near Sosua, next door to DeLancer, there's a television repair guy called Victor.
He has lots of spare parts for older TV's. Maybe he's worth a try.

LG's are known for that happening apparently. We had a 55" and the exact same thing happened to us - I went online and found out that others were complaining about the same thing. Lucky for us, it was still under warranty and we just returned it.

And bought a different brand.

In PUerto Plata, at Distribution Gonzalez, there is a guy named Angel who repaired my Samsung plasma TV a couples of months ago. The screen was going black all the time but still had sound.

Angel 809-604-8692... Came in, checked the Tv, took it back to the store and repaired it. I don't remember what was the problem but he changed a part and VOILA !!

same here... went there with a computerscreen... I handed it to him, he put it on his desk, and told me to come back the next day. I swear it had not moved, he told me he could not fix it and charged me 200rds for the work (well, he tried)

i suggest you try the guy at Gonzalez..i have heard good things. hopefully, you will not get ripped off

some weeks ago, my tv decoder box would not turn on. the light did not even come on. that tells me that it had to do with input power, most likely a fuse. took it to POP Telecable, and the guy took it inside, came back 3 minutes later, and told me that it would be 400 pesos to repair it. i asked him what was the problem. he said that the input voltage surge blew up a transistor when there was the past power outage. he had to change the entire board. so, i ask him to show it to me..

he brings it out, and shows me a 10 microfarad 450 volt capacitor. i tell him ;"dude, that is not a transistor..it is a capacitor. besides, it has a 450 volt rating, so how can a surge from 110 volts blow it?" well, i still paid the 400 pesos, because i wanted to see my college games, but most repairmen here are useless crooks.

Was worth a try...looks like you need a TV repair guy, great info above! Let us know what the fix was, but sounds like the power supply...Those TVS run very hot, wonder if it was a fan issue at first...If you find out it was a failed fan, I would ask for them to install a 12V universal fan to help keep it cool. Heat is the number one reason electronics fail...Back in the day I had a Precision amp 2200M for my 1988 1/2 Escort GT..The Amp would kick off after an hour or so of thumping base. I added 2 external 12V fans to it and BAM, solved the issue..Overall, your TV will last much longer adding another fan to keep it cooler. And no worries about draw, those 12V fans are made for this, same like a Computer's fan

Hope you get her fixed

Plugging-unplugging and changing sockets didnt fix it.

PS

Gorgon just reminded me of this...If you run your TV on an inverter, DON'T!! Do not use it when you have no power..These inverters eat capacitors for lunch! I had to change 4 in my computer...You can tell if a capacitor is going bad by looking at the top of it. It will be slightly deformed or kind of looks like its going to open from the top of it..Inverters damage electronics, they need true voltage at all times. Now, there is a simple fix for this, serina sells them in SD...It's a power block surge protector

This is what I have and its solved my issues with using my inverter..

There is a computer store close to the Metro/serina area, they may have it there of other models that do the same

I don't get it.
T.V. decoder box is not working.
You took it in.
You paid RD$400 and left.
T.V. decoder box then worked...................Sounds like a pretty good deal to me. ;)

I have the same 50" LG plasma as the OP. You hear the TV trying to start with a clicking sound then it shuts off. The problem you cite is a common one. Sometime leaving it unplugged for a while will reset it and it will work again. I bought mine at Plaza Lama in Santiago and took it in to them while in warranty to address the problem when a reset wouldn't work. After it was out of warranty I had it fixed by the Plaza Lama repairman who works freelance on repairs not covered by warranty. His name is Richard 809-461-4301. He fixed it by replacing something. I'm not sure what.

What the heck are you talking about? Years ago and being mainly on Edenorte, even with a filter fried just about everything in a year.

On a GOOD inverter we have NO problems at all.

Inverters eat and fry your stuff? Good inverters SAVE your stuff.

if you hear clicking, and it will not start, that is generally a relay

LOL..yea, I'm the same way but I have a lot of experience with electronics....I would try a call to Serena or just go there, see who they use and it may be better than a mom & pop store around here..Again, its nothing major, power supply, relay, its common with those TVS...I had a 42" Panasonic that did the same, but a reset by taking the plug out for about 30 minutes worked, never had an issue with it again until it was taken from me by my ex..LOL...Not funny, but it is in a way if you follow me..

Wish I could be more helpful..

None of the phones responded :( damn my esposo's hands r itching to break that tv open
