Moves to the D.R this summer
I know I almost only ask about food, but I always get great answers so here we go again - is it possible to buy mango chutney here? Would Nacional on Maximo Gomez be my best chance? I haven't seen it in Sirena, still ned to check out Jumbo...

Try Super Mercado Nacional and look in the aisle where they sell preserves(pineapple) and jelly.

That will be your best bet since they sell a lot of imported goods.

Nacional usually stocks the Roland brand of mango chutney which is pretty dire. I think Pola sells it too. Bravo might have better choices, and you could also try Supermercado Amigo on Tiradentes, Naco.

These two places are where you are more likely to find a proper brand like Pataks - L'epicier de l'orient, Plaza Paseo de la Churchill on Churchill with Roberto Pastoriza, or Asiatico on Avenida 27 de Febrero with Privada.

Faute de mieux! I buy, or have bought, some of their products including tahini, couscous, basmati rice and pickled lemons.

Forgot to add - but their so-called mango chutney is beyond the pale.

I can live without mango chutney, but not without HOT lime pickle - I brought two jars with me this time and one is almost finished. I've never found lime pickle here, even in those shops I mentioned earlier, but something called mixed pickle - an acceptable alternative.

Is that something like the Crosse&Blackwell "pickalilly" or "chowchow"?
Pickles (including tiny onions) in a sort of mustardy sauce?
Yum....I haven't seen that in years.

You can buy it at Sonoma's in calle federico geraldino, piantini.
Can't remember the brand. Wasn't sharwood's. Definitely wasn't roland's.
Noticed it a couple of weeks ago when i went to buy some more colman's mustard (but they had run out).

They have some interesting things in their little food shop....not altogether cheap though.
