it states a 1500 hr life expectancy....

300 days @ 5hrs a day = 1500 hrs.

Then what ? another $800 or is there a cheaper alternative.?

many of us have solar powered pools - but w/ standard pump/filter systems

Under the 1500 hours on the specs, it says "Pump New Replacement Kit $55", not sure if that is what goes out after 1500 hours though. So, you have solar panels connected to a battery system that runs a normal AC pump and filter system? Or are there special solar systems?

I know of people running solar pool pumps here in the DR and they are happy with them.

Mine runs direct... panels to the pump/filter - no battery bank.
Just runs when the sun shines
