I have an opportunity to go and work in Norway fishing for part of the year and I expect to be able to earn enough to live out the rest of the year in DR. Does anyone else do this?
I have been here a while and I really hate working or putting much effort into anything here. My business failed because I was stupid, lazy and am young enough to still enjoy the finer things in life. Now we are ticking along, but I don't think it is necessary for a person of sound mind to have to live here year round. I have decided the intelligent people leave for a while and them come home and love it even more!
So, anyone do what I'm contemplating?

Frank12 does. Just not fishing.

I know Frank, he's a lovely guy with a great adventure inside his heart, his exploits are slightly different to what I intend. In fact is he not back yet?

Man, we got a lot in common,

I am also stupid, lazy, and really hate working. I mean really hate it. Like i am allergic to it! I detest it! But I also enjoy the finer things in life like...watching girls trying to navigate down the beach in high heels while they accidentally pierce the water main and sewage lines, watching girls get in cat fights at the bar and pulling each other's hair extensions out, and watching tourists from Northern Canada projectile vomit on our pet parrot, Mabel, on the bar.

Although i'm no longer young like yourself, with enough Viagra, i can go all night. Well, that's not entirely true. I can go until someone breaks out the heart defibiliators, or gives me CPR.

Your question: Would anyone of sound mind and body live here year around? Good question. I'm not of sound mind, and i'm always fighting a nasty, resistant strain of chlamydia..which i get cleared up every fortnight, only to re-catch it from the same redhead. Beware of redheads--especially from the west coast of Norway, so i'm not entirely of sound body below the waist.

To answer your question. If you are smart, get out of here and go work in Norway for 6 months out of the year, and then come back here and live like a king. Just stay away from the redheads; they smell funny, they reek of hormones, and they're not to be trusted under any circumstance!

Ha Det Bra

Love Frank

A little trivia about Norway vs DR

1. In Norway, minimum wage (although technically doesn't exist) is around U.S $22 an hour. In the DR, it is U.S $1 an hour.
2. In Norway, a double whopper at Burger King costs U.S $11, in the DR, around U.S $5?? Not really sure.
3. A drink (4cl) in Norway costs around U.S $14, in the DR, they would shoot you if you only poured 4cl of alcohol into a glass.
4. In Norway, a pack of cigarettes costs around U.S $16, in the DR, around U.S $3?
5. In Norway, getting chlamydia cleared up costs around U.S $30, in the DR...they don't clear it up!

My business failed because I was stupid, lazy
That means that DR is the right country for you. They are stupid, lazy, and everything they start is failed right after the start.

I have decided the intelligent people leave for a while and them come home and love it even more!
That's right. I travel to normal countries every month for a week or two. After I see how normal people live, it's even more fun to come back.

I do it. I work a rotational schedule offshore. I am in the DR for half the year, and at work half the year. It's the best of both worlds, I live where it is cheap and sunny, and work where I get paid a decent wage.

Yes it is no problem working in the "country-for-special-interested" (norway)- and travelling down to RD when you have the money for it.

Just remember the planetickets from norway is "alittle" different then what most humans are used to. I know why sweet francine didnt tell you that part, this is because she didnt want to give you a heartattack, and ruining your plans.

Regarding fishing in norway- you can make alot of money, really alot. But there are very high taxes, everything is horrible expencive and it is more boring in that freezer then in a mormonchurch. A good detail is that you can work alittle without paying taxes when the owners of different fishrelated industries trust you. Thats when you really make money.

Anyway I would rather be listening to a moneyless gringo sitting drunk and crying over a lost love in sosua, then going to that country again.

Sounds like you want to go to Alaska and not Norway . For Norway and I quote:
the peak crab fishing season is from August to November. Some 75% of Norwegian landings of edible crab are from these regions, with nearly 90% of the landings going to processing factories.

Edible crab (Cancer pagurus)

But In Alaska:

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/10/16/us/alaskas-king-crab-fleet-is-left-in-port-by-shutdown.html?_r=0

Alaska’s King-Crab Fleet Is Left in Port by Shutdown

Crews and captains that in ordinary times would have been dropping their crab pots at precisely noon in Bristol Bay, 4,000 miles from the nation’s capital, were cooling their heels in places like Dutch Harbor in the Aleutian Islands, waiting, watching the news and hoping for a break.

The federal workers needed to process the permits for each boat’s catch quota were on furlough. Equally frustrating, said Tom Suryan, a crabber with 35 years of experience, was that the weather was lovely. The violent seas that crab crews can commonly confront in the fall, and that television audiences have become familiar with in shows like “Deadliest Catch,” were nowhere in sight.

They probably got out after the government reopened, but the King Crab season in Alaska is a very short one and a very dangerous one. Hence the risk/reward. The Alaskan crab season starts on Oct 15 and runs for 3 months.
