Those of you who have traveled extensively... how does DR rank in terms of friendliness of the people to foreigners? How does it rank among Latin countries? Asian countries? European? Please share your thoughts.

They are very friendly to your dollars. As a result of that excessive so?called friendliness, they rank #1 in my top of most annoying people, maybe only Egyptians are more annoying.

i do not find dominicans particularly friendly. never did. i have met more genuinely nice people in london.

as a teen i used to travel by hitch hiking. i was often treated to a meal or given some change. met lots of great folks. maybe because i was younger and more enthusiastic too? now i sport a face only a viper could love so i probably do not encourage excessive friendliness. but then i actually have some expectations towards someone i can call a "friend". and i have no friends among dominicans.

i can see from your questions that you are looking for reasons to hatch in DR for good. stop with this silliness. there is NOTHING you can really learn from us. get some cash, sub lent your apartment and stay here for 6 months or so. see the things for yourself. you never know until you try. and you know you want to ;)

Not sure what "hatch in DR for good" means, but I think I get the gist of your comment...

Also, I am "between houses" at the moment, and am thinking of earning my namesake by going abroad before settling in again here. Oh, and yes, this is getting a bit silly. One cannot get a true assessment of a situation through the eyes of others...

And yes, I want to. ;) Just too many places, not enough money and time...

Dominicans love to have foreigners as friends. They love to ask to lend them some money and never give them back. They love to ask a "friend" to pay for the dinner. So actually your wallet will be their best friend, but not you.

I find Dominicans friendly enough. Like any other country, some people are friendly, others are not. Like the rest of countries that have a poorer population, you need to watch who you call friend and who you do not. This is not solely a Dominican issue.

It's the expats that one need to be wary of.

No, I never lend money to anybody. But I know 100s stories about foreigners who gave money to Dominicans, and I have never heard a story about a Dominican who gave the money back.

I lent my (Dominican) neighbour 500rd last week, I got it back today. Your point?

You would likely be much less a pain in the ass if you were at least a bit more interesting with the barbs you so enthusiastically cast toward Dominicans. Now, during the time it takes me to find the "ignore" button, if there is one, be a good troll and go look at porn. I feel confident, given the consistently borish--and boring--nature of your posts here, that dialogue such as "oh yeah" "uh-huh", "yeah, yeah, yeah." and "oh baby" will be ever so slightly more than enough to keep whatever that thing is rattling 'round the confines of your pate occupied for a time. And besides, you can use the search menus to find any specific ethnicity to degrade that you wish.

I truly do not wish to be abrupt nor confrontational. Buy I'm from the old school. That being said, I've always believed that a good villain should have an intriguing personality. The Grinch had his theme music, Darth Vader his breath mask, and the Joker (original movie) a super-engaging, albeit violent, personality. I see none of that coming from you. On the contrary, you seem to have a beef with Dominicans, which makes me think you might be a racist bastard. That would render you the human equivalent of sewage, in my eyes.

That sir, is not a good look. No accusations, as of yet. Just an observation.

Just sayin'...

Man, you were asking for opinion of people who have traveled a lot and who live in DR. I am one of them. Move to DR, live there at least 5 years, then I'll listen to your opinion, and there is a chance that your opinion will be not that different from mine.

Good luck!

Having an opinion is fine. Looking for threads to vent your clear hatred of Dominicans is just... annoying. Not even funny. If you must do this, at least make it interesting. Work at it.

There are people who post here who I disagree with, and frankly, probably would not like in real life. However, they can at times be entertaining when being pains in the ass.

You are not entertaining. How about using an exaggerated accent when you write? Perhaps work at paragraph structure and the like, just to keep the reader's thoughts moving along, eh? How about humor? But then again, being funny takes creativity, a positive trait...

Do you have one of those? If so, let it shine. Don't be boring.

Just askin'...

...as with any country where you are a rich person trying to live amongst people who are poor. ......and you were screwed over. ;-)

Is there a record for the time it takes a thread to degenerate? This one is goin' down fast...

This is how I struggle at raising my post count. I get involved in these threads, my posts get deleted with the rest of the mess and my count goes down again! LOL
