Africa is safer than the DR? Huh?

i had this discussion with a friend recently. he is preparing a short study on crime in DR. i was telling him the travel advisory stating it is safe to travel to DR is true. he sent me an article from listin diario:

and i say, ok, i read newspapers too, but tell me how many AI tourist ever run into problems? they do not. and they constitute majority of foreign tourists in DR. if you come to DR to look for underground type of adventure - hos and drugs - do not complain that you had sand thrown in your face.

this guy is one reason why certain people should not be allowed to visit foreign countries. kinda like a commentary i read from some guy on TripAdvisor who complained about his stay at an AI hotel. he was distressed because he claims he paid his money for all inclusive, and he thought that meant that whatever you wanted, it would be brought to you. he could not understand why it was that if he wanted a drink, he had to go to the bar himself, rather than the bartender bringing it to him. some people are too spoiled and self important to leave their houses.
They should change the name of AI to 'Married' Hotels.

I am currently offshore Nigeria. While in Port Harcourt I travel with a military escort in a van with curtains on the window (I am no one special, just an oil worker), stay the night in a compound surrounded by guards and barbed wire, and am not allowed to leave the building. Those two Americans kidnapped a week ago were on a vessel 30 minutes from me.
In the DR, I travel with my family via Montero with the windows down, and live in a nice country home.

isn't he, though? a cop shakes down his buddies for a dollar, and he sees fire and brimstone..
Maybe I didn't read his blog all the way but going to Sosua is not typical of life in the DR. Comparing the DR and Africa makes little sense. Of course there is some influence from North America and Europe here is the DR. If his friends are getting stopped by police every week than something in their behavior is not right.

This guy the "Hobo Traveler" got robbed a while back by a prostitute in Puerto Plata. He wrote some article and posted a youtube video about it since then he has had a vendetta against the DR. Africa is 56 or 57 different countries, depending on how you count island nations like Cape Verde and the Seychelles. Somalia is certainly not safer than the DR. Perhaps Botswana is.

Ok you can't accurately compare a small Caribbean island to Africa. Africa has over 50 countries and hundreds of millions of people. Anyone with common sense would know that it depends where in Africa you are comparing it with. Next, the article is very racist. It is pure ignorance. Blacks in America come in every class, different morals, different skin complexions, different hair types, different cultures and education levels. You cant take them all at the same time and talk about a group of blacks like in the article. You are talking about millions of people and each one is a different person with a different personality and genetic makeup and upbringing and cultural views and morals.
Blacks in America are Americans. They act like gringos and the whites and other American groups of people. Blacks in the DR and latinos. They are spanish. They act like the mexicans and other latinos and other people in the Caribbean. They have their own crime and types of ghettos and thugs. They are not American thugs from the inner city ghettos in America. They act more like the Puerto Rican, Cuban and latino thugs.
I would not say the DR is like an American ghetto movie. It acts more like a Dominican movie. There is a huge difference.
But, if you are racist like the people who wrote the article and do not like people are darker skin complexions and roots in them from Africa like the people in the DR then stay out. Stay far from this beautiful tropical island with beautiful people in it.
If you want to lose your ignorance, study history and geography. Africa is a huge continent that makes it too hard to compare as a whole to a small island. The DR has African roots like African Americans but they are not Americans. All African Americans are not one person with one way of doing things. The DR way is caribbean and latino. The Spanish influenced them and filled them with pride and has them as part of their culture. In America, the British took in the African Americans and showed them their ways. This made two completely groups of blacks with different culture and ways of life. Study about large groups of white causing damage in India, destroying Africa, colonizing and harming people around the world, doing slavery, killing millions and millions of Indians and being criminals. Blacks are just people like everyone else they are not any more dangerous than any other group of people.
