thanks for the link, dv8. great information. maybe this, in part, explains the continuing upswing in obesity and poor health among so many in the population.

you are very welcome. this report is actually an interesting read. for example:
El apoyo a la democracia en Rep?blica Dominicana es sorprendentemente alto para su nivel de problemas econ?micos, analfabetismo y desigualdad. Alcanza su punto m?s alto en 2008 con 73%, manteni?ndose en la d?cada por encima del 60%. (page 15)

also, DR has the highest rate of the approval of the government, at 74% (page 37). but only 12% has hot water :) (page 55).

only 12% have hot water. judging by the amount of women and children whom i see walking daily with large pails of water, many don't even have running water. yet they are fine with what is happening. POP is a village, albeit a large one. everyone should have had running water by now, 2013.
