Thinking of going to Ocean Works on Friday evening in two weeks.

Is the Bravissimo Experience worth taking in, and if so, do I need to purchase tickets in advance?

Are the Poseidon Restaurant and the casino both open to visitors even if you have not spent the day at the park?

Unrelated, but is there a first run movie theater in Puerto Plata?

Thanks,

RMS

i've heard bravissimo is good but i have not seen it.
i know casino is open for everyone, been there. saddest place in the world :(
the liquor shop is good, has cheap alcohol (by bottles) and some basic food (that comes from the restaurant).
the park is nice.

dv8: What was wrong with the casino - no one there, poor selection of table games, run down facility, high minimums, bad vibe? I'm curious.

it's probably me. i imagined casino like in james bond movies. and yes, i lived in DR for so long and i have not been in a casino before. this one just looks so old and dated and dark inside. maybe this is normal. carpets that my grandma would like. lots of tables and machines. polite service. very informative. not many people but it was still early. i just felt very uncomfortable there. i did not belong.

Thanks. Funny you raise James Bond as a friend of mine who wants to come down with me on my monthly visit wants to go for exactly that same experience. That in spite of the fact we both live within spits distance of a half a dozen casinos in the northeast.

Because I'm accustomed to Atlantic City and Vegas casinos, all DR casinos seem small to me. We were also there early-ish, and it was pretty empty and quiet. And kind of small in comparison to Santo Domingo casinos. But the decor was typical.

ha ha ha, i know, it's pathetic how my brain has been washed and bleached by hollywood. i expected so much more. add to this that i am too stingy to be interested in gambling and too dumb to understand how any of the games worked. i felt like a vegan at texan beef convention.

i really like the liquor store in the marina thou. try LIA, this is kind of pink sparkling wine, like cava, only a bit sweeter. 10 dollars per bottle or so. really nice. you can have few drinks with a view of the marina, restaurant and the whole place.

i also know there is a disco on the upper floor, i've been there at some charity events and parties. looked good.

Even the Casino de Monte Carlo is not what Hollywood shows Some in Vegas like Bellagio are what you might like

I have been to that casino in Monte Carlo. You will not find a snobbier, more sterile, ostentatious mausoleum in all the world. On a more DR related note..... Whatever happened to the casino at the end of town in cabarete? Seemed like it was opened for only a short period of time. Here today, gone tamale? I haven't come across anything about prior threads.

OW Casino is pathetic compared to most "normal"casinos! I was a dealer at a few for a while and expected the Casinos in the DR to be well something more than they were. They are pathetic! I didn't expect Vegas like ones but at least something with some ummpphh! NOPE!
The Cabarete Casino is for sale now and it dropped it's asking price so it is a great deal now! :cheeky:

if it is still for sale, that means Dreams does not want it, and they are trying to buy every casino they can. it must be woebegotten.

Yes the Revel in Atlantic City is modern in style. The casino in Ocean World.is.more the norm rather than the exception.

I'm deducing from this lively debate that I will have a good time at the casino. Opinions mixed as long as the expectation is what it is, seems like a decent option to kill a night.

Ok has anyone been to the Bravissimo show? And hey what about a movie theater in PP?

Bravissimo is a consistently good, well-choreographed, high energy show. It is approximately 90 minutes long. I highly recommend it. I went again just last week with a visitor from Germany and she loved it.

The Bravissimo 'experience' package adds dinner, t-shirt, and hat to the show. The dinner is ok and on a a busy night service can be slow. Options include soup or salad starter, chicken/fish/surf-n-turf main courses, and choice of dessert. House wine, soda, water included. If you have a better dinner option, skip the experience package and just go for the show. However, if eating at ocean world is convenient... the food is ok.
