Grand Bahia Principe Bavaro

I m hoping someone can tell me this resorts proximity to the town of Bavaro.
Are there any colmados within close proximity of the resort?
I am not a resort person but we are staying at this resort for one week at Xmas.
I will need to get off the resort and experience "real" life at some points during the week.
