Beware of low priced JW Black Label, Dewars & Chivas. The market is flooded with fake products. (It's Christmas after all).

the nicest part? the bottles used often come from trash. botelleros buy them from buzones and sell to the makers of fake booze. i have seen how those bottles are washed. as gross as you can imagine.

as long as you buy in a large shop you are ok with any alcohol. generally, brugal and barcelo are also falsified although not as much as more expensive whiskies that give higher profit.

bred, i would stick to large supermarkets. they are less likely to buy fake items.

As a rule, the bigger stores will have the real ones. The problem is the people who sell it off the back of a truck. We never buy from a vendor that does not give us a “Comprobante Fiscal”. Receipt for tax purposes. Stay away from small stores who do not give you receipt showing the sales tax you paid or stores that sell it really cheap.

Friends of ours learned the hard way. Bought rum in a small shop in the Conde. Rum was watered down. I was with them and should have known better. I always buy from the large super market.

Cheap things turn out expensive in the long run......

(at least I think its Dominican).....
