From today's Sosua News:
Caused by various problems, the construction of the cruise port in Maim?n by the Carnival Corporation slowed significantly. Among other things, the company wanted to start only after the problems of the incinerator had been resolved. Until now the smoke and stench of the incinerator caused so much inconvenience that the management of the Carnival Corporation didn't want to start with the construction until this problem was solved by the government. There are also uncertainties about the (actual) financial contribution by the Dominican government in the project. But the problems seem to be resolved and the dredging has started.
There is more news:
Carnival Corporation, will build a large training center for staff of cruise ships in the Netherlands. Carnival wants to start from 2016 a cruise ship training, for annually about 5,000 officers, certainly including Dominicans. For this purpose simulators of the bridge of a cruise ship and the engine room will be built. The total investment of Carnival amounts to approximately 40 million euros. The construction will begin in the second half of next year.
Carnival owns the Holland America Line, Cunard and Costa Cruises Southern Europe. Since the disaster of the Costa Concordia off the Tuscan coast, where in January 2012, 32 people died, the company puts a lot of money in promoting safety on the ships.
