The president and founder Sylvia Berkley of the Dutch foundation 'Help Sos?akids to School' recently visited Sos?a again. Once again she brought lot of things for her school 'Colegio Evangelico Asher'. The school is still growing and now has 250 students with 11 teachers, three assistant teachers and a cook. The first students have now graduated and found employment. Sylvia has again brought funds from the Netherlands which will be used to pay a part of the salaries of the teachers. Sylvia told us that it is evident that the crisis struck in Europe, because the influx of donations has diminished.

It is now much harder to gather the necessary money for the salaries of the teachers. Fortunately, there is a Canadian charitable organization that provides support and advise. Thanks to their support, the students will soon move to a better equipped school. The students are mainly (Dominican and Haitian) children living in the neighborhood across from the Air Force base near the airport, which are not registered, so they are not entitled to free education. Without the school 'Colegio Evangelico Asher' these children were deprived of education. The foundation also supports, for many years now, the Sos?a Kids Org. In addition, Sylvia started this year the 'Project Cam?'. In the poor mountain village Cam? the last 25 children from the village have received school uniforms etc. so they can all attend school. Sylvia hopes that her foundation can continue to help the kids in the coming years, for which she needs about ? 1000,- (U.S. $1.300) per year. Despite the economic crisis, Sylvia hopes that you will continue to support the underprivileged children.
