hello i was just in sosua and would like some info on hotels in santiago that allow overnight guests and that is close to good discos.Also does anyone know of any festivals in late jan early february 2002.Thanks brian

Hotel Camino Real is a good hotel and it has a kick-ass disco in the basement.

prostitutes or ladies of the night?

The good hotels-Gran Almirante and Camino Real frown on that, but not to worry...
The Ambis Discotec is located on "Motel Row", so if you get lucky, you can get to a bed in 2 minutes, tops....

Any of the motels in town will welcome your trade...

I had a good time at the Hotel Matun,near the "Monument". The staff in the lobby brought "take out",there is/was a casino. They can send you to the "cabaret" Riverside,which has "everything" EL TIBURON

Didn't mention the Matum because I haven't heard anything good about it in a long while. They are permissive.
For you Canadians, Eddie Fayner (the King and His Court) stayed there a long time ago!! See if you can tell me who he is, and I'll stand a beer and a cigar on your next visit.

Eddie Fayner, sometime around the late 40's was a stunt pitcher who toured the US and Canada with his three team mates showing folks out in the country you didn't need nine players on the field to win.
I get to the Cibao every couple of months so put me down..haha

yes Eddie was perhaps the worlds greatest softball pitcher. In exhibitions he struck out really great baseball players like Reggie Jackson.

He appeared twice in the DR. The second time, I happened to be involved in the show and , although pretty much an alcholic , he did put on a magnificent show. Striking out people from second base, from third base, blindfolded, and even without throwing the ball!!

I hear his son is carrying on the tradition and touring arond the US and Canada, eh? with the same show.

Do take your kids to see it. It is like the Globetrotters and Barnum and Bailey's Circus, you have to see them at least once in your lifetime.

So, guys, when you get down here, get in touch and the beer's on me!

Softball team. I will be there to collect! Fast ball at about 110 mph, although nobody today will believe that you can throw a softball underhand faster than a baseball overhand! Tell them all I,m right! Tom

Had a high school teacher that was clocked at 96 mph with a softball and he was by far and by his own admission not the fastest...110...I can believe it.

don't forget a softball pitcher is clocked from 60', baseball 90'. Bob Feller through consistently 110 plus from 90'

Last time I watched a baseball game was last night and the pitcher's mound was still 60'6" from home plate, not 90 feet. The bases are 90 feet apart. And for you HB, anybody that can remember the King and His Court has to be a crusty old SOB. I remember those guys. They performed in my home town when I was a kid. I'm just crusty though.

The distance is not relevant, the radar gun clocks top speed,not speed at the plate.tommy,your name "fits"

Chris, thank you for picking up on that glaring error. Basball being 60 feet 6 inches and Softball (men's fast pitch) being 46' to the plate. This accounts for the obvious disparity in speed.

They have baseball in Chicago?

I'm glad you liked my name, maybe I can help you get your foot out of your mouth. at least I admit my error above, Radar clocks the speed of the ball as it crosses the plate, the ONLY relevant speed

Why would anyone be interested in the speed of the ball leaving the pitchers hand or after it crosses the plate, speed when the batter must use hand eye to hit the ball is clocked

The point being...

Eddie struck out Reggie Jackson, Rick Monday, and ???the other one, Don Money?? In a row, when Oakland was World Champs.

He tried baseball but could never get the same velocity from 60'6"...

Still a great show and around here they remember every trick he ever did...

The point being is that he was a great entertainer, and if he wanted to play Softball in todays world where it is an established game, he would have been the best,

Wasn't he followed by the "Queen and her Court" who took on any men's team with Picther, 1st base, catcher and right fielder?
