There is a trend these days of "discovering" unusual tropical fruit and then claiming that they have magical properties to make one lose weight, to prolong life, and of course, to be a sexual athlete even when one reaches 80. The A?ai from Brazil is one such fruit, and near magical -roperties have been given to pomegranates as well recently. I fully expect to see mangosteens, starfruit, durian and all manner of other rare fruits be marketed in this way.
That said, I have never seen the fruit in your picture, even in the Lancetilla Botanical Gardens in Tela, Honduras, which is one of the first and largest such gardens, so I cannot say anything at all about it. If I did see it on sale, I imagine I would try it.
There is a tamarind (tamarindo) already posted I think tamarinds are native to India, and they do not look as though they are related to the green fruit in your picture which sort of resembles a zapallo, a small Argentine squash, which is a darker green in color.
