From today's Sosua News:

Victor Belen is an artist and has his studio around the corner at the Checkpoint bar in Sos?a. He is an excellent painter and sculptor. But he also spends a lot of time drawing cartoons. They are caricatures to make fun of the behavior of government officials. Many of these cartoons have been published in several national newspapers. In his cartoons stars 'Masango El Taino' a fantasy figure.

Masango el Taino is a Taino Indian, so a member of the original inhabitants of the island which have all been massacred by the Spaniards and exotic diseases. Victor uses his Taino figure to criticize humorously the misconduct of the police, lawyers and politicians. At this time, Victor is working on an animated movie with Masango el Taino in the lead. The script for the one hour animated movie is ready. Currently he is working on a storyboard. When he finishes this he wants to find sponsors who want to invest in his project. The film starts with Victor working on the cartoons when he lets a few sheets of drawing paper fall to the ground. From these paper sheets arises the Indian Masango. Like someone from a bygone era he curiously steps into the world today and will see amazing things: cars, planes, rockets and strange habits. But the Taino Indian also gives his opinion about the (mis-) behavior of the current residents. All this with a lot of humor. We look forward to seeing the movie produced by an artist in Sos?a
