We're in the middle of extending one of our property side walls by 60 meters [taking down the barbed wire fencing].

Several years ago, we built a wall across the front of our property, and we needed to pay a permit fee. They told us it was because it was a front wall, that side walls don't need them.

Yesterday the alcalde came over and told us we have to pay 3000 pesos for a permit to extend the existing side wall, based on the length of the wall.

Anyone familiar with building permit laws???? Maybe a link to laws?

Thanks in advance.

RD$2.00 block, several thousand pesos, US$100.00, whaty ever they think they can get from you!

Realisticly permits are required anytime ground is broken, from the enviromental dept to City hall and the workers compensation admistration. But the actuall process and cost is very buerocratic and time consuming even for the DR that for small projects most people choose to try to get away with it.

AE it is best, to allow your maestro to deal with the people looking for $, he, is is 1/2 honest will make the correct
deal and pay thorugh him.

You can refuse to pay, depending on who is looking for the $$, they may can cause further problems or they may decide your not worth messing with.

Beware there are con's out there whom try to hit before an actuall authority shows up for their bribe, so check for official ID's and compare to thier cedula, yes even the bribable officials are willing to identify themselves

Keep in mind that since most people can't read that are employed in the government agencies they make up the rules as they go along. Unfortunately I do not know where you can get an actual copy of such laws.

Yes, permits are required. Just make sure that when you pay it's put in writing and keep the document(receipt) in a safe place for future reference because normally they come back to try and see if they can get more money.Make sure it's signed and dated!

Make sure the receipt is stamped:ayuntamiento.
