United plans new Dominican Republic route from Newark
United Airlines plans to launch a new Dominican Republic route out of its Newark Liberty this summer.
United would fly the route to Santiago in the Dominican Republic using Boeing 737-900 jets. The route still must be cleared by regulators. The airline eyes a summer 2014 launch for the flights, which still must be approved by regulators. United says the exact start date for the Newark-Santiago service won't be announced until it wins the needed regulatory approvals.
United says the Santiago flights would be timed to provide "round-trip connectivity with Washington and Chicago."
Santiago is the second-largest city in the Dominican Republic and is located in the north-central part of the nation.
United already flies from Newark to the Dominican Republic destinations of Santo Domingo, Punta Cana and Puerto Plata. United also offers seasonal service to Punta Cana from its hubs at Chicago O'Hare and Washington Dulles.
