I have been trying to put together a simple little directory of emergency numbers for Sosua/Cabarete just for
Fire, Police and Ambulance and this is proving less easy than you would expect. Forget 911, it isn't functioning....yet.

I've got hold of a few other versions floating around and tried calling the numbers, but they are hit and miss, to
say the least. Even if you finally get an answer, I would hate to have to rely on some of them in a real emergency.

What I have so far, and I have tried these out, are:

Medical (Ambulance): CMC Clinic 809 571 4696 ext. 1011/2
Bournigal Clinic 809 586 2342 ext. 141
Fire (Sosua): 809 571 2301
Police (Sosua): 809 571 2338

If anyone can give me any additions that are reliable, especially for the Cabarete area i.e. the Cabarete Police, I'd be very grateful.

I look forward to hearing what, if anything, is out there.

Yes, this number still is working.

The police station changed for now into another house, same main-road around 300 m (mas/menos) direction Sabaneta,
before the Texaco-Station.

If you find yourself in the position of needing emergency help you would be better off phoning friends and neighbors. Dominicans have a culture of helping friends and family that has developed in part due to the complete and utter failure of government agencies to do anything but enrich themselves at the publics expense.

Yes that is what I would have and will do, run into our barrio like a freak yelling about and they would help in a second. I still don't know the name of our road that we live on so couldn't really direct people to us anyways!

Thanks very much for this, Sabra, really helpful. Do you know if the ambulance is part of Servimed, or a separate service?

zoomzx11, I'm inclined to share your lack of confidence and suspect that sometimes you may be adding to your troubles by involving the police, but I have been asked to compile the information and at least people can choose it they wish to use it or not.

I know exactly where I live, street, area, the whole bit. And I can say it in perfect Spanish.....in my head. When I try and say it to a Dominican they look at me like Im speaking greek or something. Call family or friends is your best bet

Linda, I have to ask because of the Ambulance, will do it tomorrow.

What to prefer - police or the neighbours? For sure one can ask for help by the neighbours, depends what happens.
Imagine, an armend robber or more are in your neighbours property - will you run into the property to fight with them?
Can be a final decision for you. No easy situation, years before I was called by a neighbour, lady, and while inmediately asking by phone another neighbour to call the police, I was running in direction to the property of the lady in problems -
suddenly stopped, because of new shots. Lucky that in this case the police very quick was coming.
Another example - in case of medical emergency I would try to ask the neighbour for help, p.e. transport to the next clinic.
But - what to do in case the neighbour isn't at home - or not listening the phone etc.?
So in my opinion it is helpful to know all this phone-numbers.
And additional the phone-number of the taxi-station , (Cabarete 809 571 0767).

Just my view.

Thanks so much, Sabra, I agree, best to have all the info handy in case we need it and a good reminder about transport, too. I will wait to add the ambulance details. When I have this little card in an understandable form I will post it here for anyone who wants to have the numbers handy.

In 12 years of living in Cabarete involving the police is like adding to the problem rather then assisting generally speaking . Unless you have a special relationship with an officer or two .... Do your best to avoid this additional pain ! My opinion. However nice to have emergency # s of medical and other vital #s the police should be the last resort.
