Urgent Care Clinic in Cabarete.

So the wife and I got matching dog bites on our right arms last week and we went to CMC and had great care from Emerg.
Our bites both got infected so we decided to try the Urgent Care place in Cabarete, not sure of the exact name, I never pay attention to stuff like that. The lady who was the receptionist so I thought was ok but the lady Dr was really nice and gave us stronger antibiotics and took care of us well.

We went back yesterday to get the stitches out at the place in Cabarete and the lady who was the receptionist last time I guess is a nurse told us it would be 100 pesos each, didn't take our insurance info and said it in a corner so the Dr couldn't hear.

She took us both back to the area, didn't wash her hands, no gloves and used the same medical utensils to take out both of our stitches, didn't clean our wounds after and took the money with no receipt or anything which we know she pocketed since she was shifty about the Dr not seeing.

Had I not been stressed about getting my stitches out I would have said something about no gloves etc..but I really don't like weird skin/stitch/infection things so I was freaked out.

I am not a germ freak but 2 people having infected things using the same equipment?! GROSS! At least it was my wife and I am sure they were sterilized before right??!!?!?!?!!

I really like the lady Dr that was there before but I don't know that I will go back there.

I didn't want to start a thread about my dog that got attacked by the dogs that bit us but for those who asked he is doing so much better and should be fine! His ego is bruised and his poor head is a mess but he is getting back to his old self. :classic:

Knife AND tweezers at the same time…you're for sure overqualified. That shows real skill :)

That is the Bournigal Cabarete emergency clinic. We had a experience (about 8 years ago) with a family member going to Bournigal in POP for outpatient surgery. He was awake and only needed a local anesthetic. He told us the doctor did not wear gloves. That was it for me. I wouldn't go to Bournigal unless I'm in critical condition, and that's the only alternative to save me.

Bournigal in Cabarete? Where's that? I assumed the OP was talking about ServiMed, the one on the main street by Helados Bon. Can we confirm?

There is another emergency place in Cabarete, open 24 hours. Not sure what it's called, a non fancy looking place, close to the politur station and casino, on the same side of the road. I was treated there once for cuts, the people there were quite professional.

I would have pulled the stitches myself. Easy enough to do. But then again, I do a lot of stuff that I guess most other folks leave for the professionals.
As far as gloves are concerned.. What did the world do before gloves??

well, depends where the stitches are located ;)

before gloves one would wash the hands and disinfect them, maybe?

I liked the post but was appalled by the story. Possibly the teachings of Ignaz Semmelweiss haven't yet been transmitted to parts of the DR. Semmelweiss was a 19th century Hungarian doctor who theorized that the high mortality rate of women following childbirth or miscarriage was caused by doctors not washing their hands.

Louis Pasteur recognized the validity of Semmeleiss's observations, though Semmelweiss's theories were not universally well-received. In fact many doctors were insulted. He ended up being committed to an asylum while in his 40s and dying as a result of beatings by the guards there (they probably didnt wash their hands either).

it was an interesting story, semmelweiss actually noticed higher rate of deaths in the wards where doctors performed births than in the ward staffed by nurses doing the same job. he made a connection between the fact that doctors performed post mortem and attended women in labour straight away, without washing their hands or changing clothing.

wait, i took it off topic now, didn't i? in any cases, a nurse in any hospital in DR should know. and no offence to the OP, he knows i have lotsa love for him and wife, i am surprised that nurse did not grab a hazmat suit seeing their tattoos. i would have thought she'd be scared to catch something from the OP and not the other way round ;)
