don Luis Heredia Bonetti has died today.
The funeral wake will be at the Funeraria Blandino as of 8:30pm.
I had known him for many years and have had high respect for him as a doer, educator and visionary.
A leading promoter of the country, he practically turned his law firm into an investment promotion office. An innovator, he championed many educational causes. He was the mentor of many of today’s leading lawyers that left his firm to set up equally successful operations.
He is well remembered for his Dominican Week, that sought to explain that the DR was more than baseball and sun and beaches.
He started his career in public service at the Ministry of Foreign Relations, and worked at the Mission of the Dominican Republic to the United Nations in New York from 1960 to 1966, being hired later by the Mission of the United States Agency for Development in the Dominican Republic from 1966 until 1968. He would leave to become a partner in the Russin Vecchi Heredia Bonetti (RVHB) law firm. He is known for his internationalist vision of business law in the Dominican Republic, and inspired important changes in foreign investment.
He is survived by his wife Maureen Tejeda of St. George School, and his sons and daughters -- Angelica Venecia, Luis Jose Francisco, Jose Miguel and Nora Maria Heredia Valenzuela.
