On Saturday March 15 at 2pm at The Meeting Place Gerhard Mulder and Frans Doorman will discuss environmental issues and specifically Chikungunya fever which is transmitted by the Asian Tiger mosquito whose favorite breeding places are tires that have collected water, stored in the open air. Chikungunya has not arrived in the DR, but it is on its way: the number of cases in various Eastern Caribbean islands is rising.

Gerhard Mulder: worked for over 30 years for the World Food Program in Africa, Latin America,and Asia and is a member of the International Ecological Engineering society (Switzerland) , which develops solutions for problems caused by climate change. Frans Doorman is an international consultant for cooperation in agricultural, rural and institutional development.
