The best gym really depends on your fitness goals. Are you a bodybuilder, powerlifter or just someone who goes for general health?

gyms are a personal thing. Visit all of them and you will find the one that suits you best. Some have ac some no. The one thing that they lack is pretty girls to improve the gym atmosphere. For some reason Sosua's beauties do not exercise much. Someone else cannot tell you which gym is best.

By the time the girls in Sosua wake up all the gyms are closed.

I'm an old school guy who likes the original Golden Park Gym. 700 pesos per month. No a/c, but multiple ceiling fans......and hey, I go to the gym to break a sweat.

They all have night jobs? Golden Park is pretty rough but the cheapest. Equipment is really old, not maintained, and most of the dumb bells have been stolen by thieves throwing them out the rear Windows where they come back at night and pick them up. Fans or no, its really, really hot and none to clean. Clientele is a bit bizarre at times. For a time we had this Grand father type with no teeth who used to work out in his dirty socks. Old school does not fully describe the place.

When was the last time you were there? That maybe descibes the place 3-4 years ago, but not now.
I believe a new set of (Russian?) owners took over a year or so ago. The place is still old, but well maintained and clean.
And the dumbell racks always seem full.

I was there less than six months ago and it has never been worse. Most of the heavier, 50 pounds and up, dumb bells are gone. Th remaining dumb bells are a mix of different brands, some the old plastic filled with cement style. Many of the benches have torn covering which is a bacteria farm. There is never any a/c. In the past they turned on the generator when the gym was crowded. The ceilings still leak in the rain. generator has not run in a long time. Many of the bar bell plates are missing, mostly 45s and 25s (thrown out the back window I venture) so the idea of doing any heavy bench press or squats is out of the question. This gym has been sold a number of times in the last few years. It would be nice if the owner fixed it but from what I saw it has continued its down hill plunge. I wish it was better as I worked out there for quite a few years before the other gyms opened up. For a long time it was the only game in town and I was glad it was there. Its cheap but its worth it.

I've been to all of the gyms mentioned above. the best gym, by far...and i mean by far...is Sosua Ocean Village gym--formely known as Gold's Gym. It has wonderful A/C, new equipment, very well maintained equipment, a boxing room, a yoga room, beautiful bathrooms, hot water, soap all the time (don't laugh...i'll explain later), and you get a nice huge towel when you walk in the door.

They also have great parking with security (it's located inside a gated community), a nice restaurant--not cheap, but good; a beautiful pool--two pools to be exact--that you're entitled to use if you are a gym member, and a beautiful view of the ocean.

I've belonged to nearly all of the gyms in Sosua--the last one being Platinum--but i got tired of bringing my own soap, towel, and listening to excruciating loud music and stupid young Dominican kids talking way too loud and sometimes putting on really loud, stupid music. I'm old, i'm fat...i'm sorry, i cannot listen to loud music anymore and watch kids workout and flex.

The gym is not cheap, but yet it is cheap...it's 2,500 pesos a month--that's about US $58. Not bad. In San Francisco i paid much more, IN Norway, i pay way, way more....and i never had a view of the ocean!!

PS. Oh yeah, they're open on Sunday.

PS-2--one complaint: Since i've joined, i've gained weight and gotten fatter. I don't know if that is the gym's fault or my own?
