Hi, we will be coming over in 4 weeks time and I really fancy playing a round of golf while we're visiting. Are the prices as crazy as one site I visited earlier that quoted over $300 including club hire?

Thanks for the reply Mauricio. I'm not too worried which course I play, just interested what it costs to play

prices vary by course. For example, las lagunas en Santo Domingo charges about 2000 pesos, which is USD50. I dont know about club hire.

I would suggest looking into Iberostar, Barcelo and La Cana/Hacienda. There are also local golf tour operators that will package different courses together. Try looking up Caribbean Golf & Tours.

save your money and play punta espada

if you play after 2pm at cap cana's punta espada, it is ONLY $200, but worth it and it includes caddy and cart but not tip
it is rated best course in carribean/mexico in golf magazines
nearby, tom fazio's los corales is supurb but big $ as is pete dye's teeth of the dog in la romana where i first played in 1980 when i was a peace corps vol here
pb dye has his la cana and iberostar which are both nice but not in the pebble beach level of the other 3
play once and play the best: punta espada

I do not play much golf. Also there is more then one Barcelo in the Punta Cana area. But the golf course we saw looked nice. Maybe someone else has played there. The Barcelo Deluxe was a pretty nice place to stay. Looks like different rates for guest and for visitors. Then there are package deals.

I can try to remember more about the hotel stay if you want information about the hotel. At that location there are two Barcelos hotels next to each other. It is a pretty big complex. We also stayed at the cheaper Barcelo at a different location. You can tell the difference between the cheaper one and more expensive one. But the cheaper one was closer to other hotels. At the cheaper you could walk the beach and easily leave the complex. The more expensive one with two Barcelos you are more secluded. They actually have a shuttle that is inside the barcelo so that you can get around. You have to pay a little more to have access to everything like the wave pool, spa, etc.

I learned from the Forum that you can go to Hard Rock Cafe's casino and not be a guest there. Sounds like they have a lot of TV's for sports.

Hard Rock is laid out so that hotel guests have 1 wing, while everyone else is welcome everywhere else, including the casino and the nightclubs. Don't know where the golf is in relation to these two sections, though.

You can go to Casa De Campo, they got a huge golf course to play, a top line 18 hole

What defines a huge golf course. Does this mean there are lots of par 5?s, no par 3?s or the layout is just so wide that it steve wonder couldnt lose a ball.?Most 18 hole courses are going to be around the same length due to the nature of par.

Iberostar is the best deal. You get free drinks and sandwiches on the course and lunch is included after the round. If you can convince them that you are a local, you can get a round for $60US. You can join their "club" for $99US a year and pay $45 per round. Nice course and well maintained-not real hard. Punta Espada is a great course, but pricey. The Barcel? course has been redone and is very nice-not sure of the cost.

Unless you are darker skinned, I think they want to see a copy of your title of property.

I'm working on my tan before we fly over

Seriously though, thanks very much for your replies so far everyone. Think our hotel is Gran Bahia Principe Bavaro but I'd have to check. My wife booked it, I'm just counting down the days.

Not a real serious golfer so playing the best courses and paying top dollar would be pointless.

Bring stuff like sunscreen. Probably cost a lot there. Also even though it is all inclusive bring alcohol (duty free) if there are certain things you like to drink. There top shelf can be limited. Depends if you are picky or into wine or some premium alcohol. They will have plenty of light and dark rum, mamajuana and presidente on tap.

I am looking at their website:

FREE Domestic Drinks in any of the 7 Bars available until 11pm (After 11pm the Pueblo Principe Snack Bar Will Serve Snacks, Beer and Soft Drinks)

FREE House Wine Served With Meals (Except at Snack Bars)

Some people don't care about house wine and domestic drinks. But if you like Crown Royal, Jack Daniels, Absolute, Grey Goose, more expensive wine, champagne, etc get it in duty free. Or it would make an excellent gift / tip if you decide not to drink it. They seem to like Baileys Irish Cream for some reason.

Also bringing your own cup is a good idea. Something larger that will keep your drinks cool. If you drink their drinks are normally in a small plastic cup. They will fill up your cup if you bring a larger insulated cup.

Not sure about that place. But a lot of them you have to make reservations for the restaurant (early) or your end up at the buffet. A of people do not seem to tip especially at the pool bar. But if you are going to tip you can bring a lot of dollar bills which is 43 pesos. Having a lot of small bills makes it a lot easier. People do not make much and it should be appreciated. Or if you exchange into pesos try to get close to 43 as the rate and get a lot of 50 and 100 bills.

Cheers Texan. Been a few times before but on the North Coast. I always tip when someone does their job well. Our pool bar attendant Juan at Blue Bay Villas made a fortune off me last time :D

I'm actually quite partial to Brugal rum anyway so I'm catered for normally, although the whisky on offer is usually pretty poor

I know this is late, but I played in PC back in the week before easter. I have a FedoGolf membership and played at Barcelo and the HardRock for something like $50US each. That included lunch and all your drinks and range balls. Basically you bought a day at the resort, but much cheaper. Regular rate at HardRock was $200.
Also, I would like to add that I just played at Playa Grande. The status is they are still working on the back nine and it will be open by September of this year. Unfortunately, the front nine has been neglected and was in terrible shape. Costs $59 for 2 trips around the front nine, but don't bother until September.
Casa de Campo has a membership/tournament deal that is a good deal. You sign up for a year membership at 2500 pesos and they have one member tournament each month for 2500 pesos or roughly 60 bucks. A regular round costs anywhere from 150 to 225. I try to get out there once a month for the tournament. If anyone else is game, let me know.

Nope, hubby plays this course all the time, gets all the perks without showing our title, never been asked.
He loves this course with the drinks, cart, sandwiches etc and the great day of golf:lick:
