As the Strength for the Journey Community Center construction in Sosua is almost complete, we are looking to add some volunteers to help with our programming. Currently, we have an educational iPad program for kids ages 4 - 17. Until the end of May, the program will run on Wednesday and Friday mornings, from 9 - 11 am. The kids are well behaved and very independent. They know how to use the iPads and apps. Occasionally, they need a little direction or tech support, but the volunteer responsibilities are minimal. For a volunteer, basic knowledge of how to navigate tablet devices is sufficient. Ability to speak basic Spanish would be a plus. The program is free to local children.

Beginning in June, other activities are being added, including a sports activity camp, hip hop activities (led by a well known LA hip hop artist- who is female), some art activities, and additional iPad sessions. In July, a second camp is schedule, led by other volunteers. Once again, all offerings are free.

The Community Center is a gift to the residents of Sosua. Once it is complete, it will be available to individuals and groups for meetings, classes, and other activities. The center is a non-profit, charity endeavor. We welcome your support and your participation.

For more information, feel free to contact me by PM.

Lindsey: you are a bright, shining example of what is right and good in Sosua. It does take a village, and it would be nice
to see some support from the dr1 community! Please keep us posted of further developments!

Hello Lindsey! Where is it located? Are there any classes on weekend? For 10 year old girl, she wants to do every kind of art.

Jessica, nothing on weekends, sorry. By Friday, this old girl is tired!

Art classes are on Thursdays from 5:00 - 6:00 pm. We will restart them next week with a great new teacher!!!! And we recently received donations from outside the country of paints and paint brushes, and markers, and crayons, and every kind of paper you can imagine. Great things are going to happen.

We are located across from the Infiniti Blu development in Sosua. There is a big blue building. Latino Market is there. We are on the second floor. You will see our sign.

Thanks for asking.
