Last time I was in Puerto Plata, I went to the bank and asked the motoconcho to wait for me. I stood in line for about 20 minutes and when I got to the teller I gave her a note and asked for coins so that I could pay the motoconchos. With a confused look on her face she told me that the bank didn't carry coins. If you can't get coins from a bank where do you get them from?

Where to Obtain Coins
of course that banks have coins. some coins need to be ordered. for the business we would regularly "buy" 1000 pesos worth of 1 peso coins, these were most difficult to get. other than than bancas (where you play lottery) always have coins. and colmados. and small sellers of ice cream, sweets, fruits etc. when we had a business we had a deal with many sellers like that. even when we did not need coins i'd still change for them and send the coins to be deposited in the bank.
