I have been living and working in the DR for a while. I am married to a Dominican Lady. I did have a work visa
which was provided by my employer. However, this ran out several years ago and was never replaced.
I have been looking into applying for my residency.

I have been told that I now have to go back to the UK and get a temporary residency permit. The Dominican
Consulate in the UK have said that i can not send all documents by post as the temporary residency permit needs to be stamped at a port/airport of entry at the Dominican Republic.

Does anyone know of an other way i can do this without returning to the UK?

Many thanks
Rick

You "might" qualify for the current regularization plan, read through this thread for the specifics, start with the posts from June 1st onwards.

Again, don't you find it kind of stupid that he is married to a Dominican Woman and still has to go through all that hassle to get permanent residency for only 6 months to proceed to naturalization?

This is one of the dumbest things I have ever seen or heard ever period.

jimmy, you know I agree, but we can't do anything about it. At least the new regularization plan will allow him to start the whole process without having to go home.

Even if you do the amnesty program, it's only for a temporary residency. So you will still have to do all the things for a permanent residency for 6 months and married 6 months to proceed to naturalization.

Yes, but it saves having to go back to home country, time and money!

Again thank you all for your help and advice.
I asked the The Dom Embassy in the UK about police and medical checks. They said it would have to be from here. So why do i have to go to the UK if i need all my documents from here because i have been living here. Its all arse about face!!! so annoying
I remember seeing a link to an online lawyer that deal with this but i cant find it now.Does any one know one.

richard, this is a BRAND NEW opportunity to you, if you've been living here. It just began June 1st. No trip home necessary.

Alterego, I think you are incorrect in your assumptions here-This 'amnesty' is only a temporary residency visa. One would still need to go back to their home country for police report and medical test in DR to complete the permanent residency.

The entry visa most certainly has to be obtained in the UK ..Regrettably there is no way out for the is .It is the way the process for the Residency Card commences , The non criminal record and his overall health certification is obtained in the DR because he lives here, the medical test is done by a Department of Immigration official urine and blood tests and Xray . Far quicker to use a lawyer who specialises in the area and knows the people at immigration , Having obtained his residency card,,which is called Temporary residence card because it is for one year only he must go to the Office near the Plaza delos Banderas for his new type cedula...Tey will expire now on the same day and the renewal process is much easier,
Also he will need a Dominican sponsor of some substance,,probably should own his home and have some 150,000 in his bank account

Even if he's married to a Dominican? My head is spinning.
