Hello,

one question which one of the both hotels would you prefer Dominican Bay or Hamaca? I stayed in Dominican Bay before and it was ok for me. However I would like to try the Hamaca but its almost 200 Euros more (for an 11 days stay. Is the higher rate justified? Reviews are not that great. Please no recommendations for other places I would like to stay at the beach and my boyfriend needs to work during the week so we have to stay near Santo Domingo. Thanks for your help in advance.

From all the people I have spoken to here I'd say that the quality of the food and rooms is about the same but at the Hamaca off course you have ocean view and the beach is more private.
To me personally that would be worth the almost 20 euros a day.

Thanks for your advice Ricky but I checked the rates and Zapata is not cheaper than the fare I get from my german online travel agency esp. if you consider that I would need to pay extra for lunch and dinner.

All Inclusives are great if you don't mind Monday's BBQ chicken as Tuesdays Chick-fil A, and Wednesday's sancocho!
You might actually eat better and experience the local culture, while supporting local business by staying in a nice boutique hotel on the beach. I would not stay in either hotel for FREE, Hey it's your stomach. Cuidate - Tambo

It’s been about 6 years but I have stayed at both. Hamaca was considerably more upscale and is easily worth an extra 20 dollars per night

At Dominican Bay I didn’t particularly like the long walkway to beach and what they called their “Disco”

Zapata I also tried, too dam* interested in your business, I would never stay there again

I would tend to agree, neither is a very good choice. It really is not that expensive eating outside the hotel if you know where to go and/or get some recommendations from people. If your BF knows the area somewhat then that would make it even easier. To be honest I have friends that come to visit often and I do no think I have ever seen them have 3 "meals" a day not even staying in an AI. But I am thinking you are looking for more of a package deal where everything is included. Keep in mind though the food well more than likely will get tiresome after a few days so you may find yourself venturing outside the hotel to eat anyway. If Dominican Bay was ok with you previously then maybe stick with what you know.

I would stay in neither if they paid me. Dominican Bay is dreadful and full of lowlifes, the rooms are horrid and the the walk across the flyover is a pain in the butt, and only leads you down to a pretty poor effort of a beach bar.
Hamaca is nice on first glance and then you head down to the beach and see the snack area for all its filth and grot. Both places seem to house lowlifes after a certain hour, and unless you pay the extra you can not use the lounger area off to the left, even if they are empty.
I seriously would turn a free trip down, and they would have to pay me more than it would cost me to stay there to get me to stay in either. Sorry. Much better options. Fly in cheap and look when you get here. I have stayed in nice little places (all over the place) in Boca for RD1,200 per night, and food is very cheap, all over.

I sometimes wonder if I stayed in the same place as other people commenting The DB was good, clean and noise was acceptable depending on where your room was As others and myself mentioned the distance to the beach via a ?Walkway? can be a pain if you need to return to room a couple times, facilities were ?mid grade? at best but in good shape

Hamaca was of much higher quality and everything contained in one area I have no idea of current operations but Hamaca had the ?go to? Disco for area as well as casino

The difference in quality was like comparing a Holiday Inn motel to a Hilton property

Problems: You will likely find them anyplace you stay, be it the cheapest cabana or 5 star hotel You sound as if you want to stay at one place and not be concerned with traveling for meals, entertainment etc,,, either or both would be fine, again for twenty bucks extra per night I would take Hamaca unless something drastic has befallen them in past few years

Free trip? I?ll take it in heartbeat

Unfortunately Hamaca has definitely seen better days. Not anything drastic just simple wear and tear and not being kept up. Was there fairly recently and really was a bit put off. But I wasn't staying there so maybe there are area's of the resort that look better. But if the price is right take Hamaca over Dominican Bay if an AI is the way you want to go.

Ok so its gonna be the Hamaca :). The ice cream machine sealed the deal ;-) . I think I just wanna have a carefree all inclusive vacation this time. We might go out a few times to get a decent cocktail or good pizza but I think we will be fine there. Thanks for all of your help

Right Attitude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Many of us "DR1ers" think that people come to the DR for a "DR EXPERIENCE" when the reality is they come for a week of "Sun,Sand, and to just "Veg Out" in a lounge chair.
Saving $10, or $20 bucks a day on a hotel is NOT on their "Radar Screen"!
If you can afford more money, next trip find an "AI" in Punta Cana.
It's the only "Real Carribean Vacation Spot" in the DR!
All the other spots are burned out, low budget, lousy food,WEEK END DAY PASS Dominicans, dumps.
My Family goes to the "Hamaca", I stay home!
(Don't let my wife see this, but when they went there for Semana Santa, I went to "Costambar", North Coast)
