From what I've seen the issue is there is a big difference between seeded grass, typically Bermuda, and the sod one finds which is a hybrid. The seeded Bermuda is a good grass, hardy and drought resistant but has a tendency to grow tall and fast as opposed to sideways. On the other hand the hybrids generally grow sideways and slower which is perfect for lawns. My advice would be to sprig the area with the hybrid grass. A very good hybrid here in Cibao is "grama nana".

Bob, when they laid the SOD at the "Plaza de la Salude" I thought, "What the F*#K have they done"????
All different levels, Many open spaces, it looked like $HIT!!!!
Guess what, it leveled itself off, and filled in all the open spaces too.
After 6 months it was perfect.
It will "Fill In" very fast.
You might want to do it the "Dominican way", "Do Nada", and see what happens.
That's FREE!

I have no issues with doing it the Dominican way, however the sod I received was filled with weeds and I can patiently wait for the good grass to fill in the gaps , or I can over-seed with a good tropical grass seed like Kikuyu or Bahia if I can find some.
