Reading through the posts I missed during my absence, I didn't see this mentioned. It is from the Sosua News about 2 weeks, but I think it has enough human interest value to be shared here:
The first literacy course 'Quisqueya' for residents of Sos?a has recently been successfully completed. The participating students aged 24 to 70 years were very enthusiastic about the results. They said that now they can read in the Bible and the newspaper and even know how to write their own name. They are even able to sign with their signature.
The new course literacy for citizens of Sos?a has already started with enough participants. Mayor Ilana Neumann calls on people to sign up for the upcoming courses so that no citizen of Sos?a remains illiterate. If Sos?a wants to develop further the education level of the population has to increase according to the mayor.
