What Is The Average Monthly Income In DR in RD$?

as far as I'm concerned most jobs in DR do not pay RD$430 an hour, yet for some reason I keep hearing people
complaining about the cost of living and how money is not enough.

Please someone tell me, is RD$22000 monthly income enough for a single man to support him self on a extended vacation?

no. most places will not have hotels less than $1000 pesos a night. Sometimes there are $300 pesos a night places for Haitians and truck drivers but not in that many many places. You would not be having what we would call a "vacation"

That is allowing you only 733 D.P. ($17. U.S.) per day for a 30 day month.............
That includes lodging, food, entertainment, transportation, and extras...........
It will be very very rough to enjoy yourself with that kind of money...........
If you have a place to stay for free, like a friend..........you could make it..........
It would still be very tight.........

Even I ( see past threads ) couldnt live on 22 000 pesos a month !!!! And I have no rent, a car and a bike for getting around........ and I live in the middle of nowhere........ and I eat my own veggeies, fruit, chicken and pork..........
A carton of M#######cigarettes is 1350 pesos........ if u smoke a packet a day thats already 4000 pesos, ie a big dent in a budget.....

The average salary for 90% of the population is about 8-10k pesos a month. How can they make it on that ? .They all live with multiple family members, sharing beds. There is usually a relative from somewhere who chips in a $100 or 2 a month to help out with expenses.

I know of one American guy who's living on half that amount ie $11,000 per month. He pays for a room with a fan $3500 per month in Monte Cristi. He doesn't smoke and he only eats fruit that he scavenges for. He supplements his diet with packets of cheese macaroni. He does drink rum within this budget.

He cannot go home and he's opted to die here.

I don' t think that is correct. The median is 6000 US$ per year 50% of the population below that. That makes 21,500 RD$/mo.

Are you saying that the average Dominican earns 21,500 pesos per month? I'd like to see the source for those numbers and the demographic. From experience that number is highly inflated.

Been here for 8 years, and every Dominican I know makes between RD 6000-8000 per month.............
And they are still scared to death of one day losing their job...........

you need to make your moolah outside of the Country, but the trick to tranquility is doing that while in the DR.. if you can net 25k a month in USD you will be living the good life..

having said that if you are under 30 and want to live the "Beach Life" with all the other have nots, I get that.. 30 and under we all at one time didn't give a shizzle about money, it was more about the Beach Life and college girls, and parties, and more parties.. eventually we get older and for some reason life becomes more serious..

$22k is way more than the peace corps volunteers are paid and while it is true that they have perks like health insurance, they do survive on more like $9k a month. So the OP will be living like that rather than like most of us. There are lots of barrios and towns where you can get a place for $3k pesos.. the issue is finding a furnished one for six months. (the pc volunteers are given a lump sum to furnish a place)

places out of the way, like Luperon or Pedernales or even Samana are probably much cheaper and still have access to the water.. maybe not a lot of company.

Being bilingual is a plus but the OP is not going to find work easily..

then the other thing is that even a six month rental is going to be part time and more expensive.

BUT there are always ads for shared apartments and rooms available

Here is one source: for median and average too.
Salary Survey in Dominican Republic| Salary Comparison

What have you found?

Did you read the job statistics? Looks like of the people that responded the survey questions 66% had a bachelor's degree and 33% had a masters. Of the population of the DR how many fall into this category? Other than the major population centers of Santo Domingo, Santiago, Puerto Plata, and Punta Cana, how does the distribution of these degrees play out? Even if you take all that into account the average salary is $21,500 pesos? Unless a more extensive research project is under taken to find the true average salary in the DR we will never know. however, anecdotaly I can say that for the vast majority of the population the salary is more along the 10,000 peso amount.

People I've spoken to in my area that are open on their earnings state anywhere between 50-150k pesos monthly. They work for companies like Grupo Estrella, Concredom, Ecocisa, Grupo Ramos.. Doctors and lawyers seem to make quite a bit more than that but they have expenses they don't mention when they mention earnings.. I live in an upper middle class area in Santiago.
