Has anyone used Monica in Sosua for dental crowns and if so, can you give me an estimate of cost per crown?

Has anyone used Oscar Morel in Santiago for crowns and if so, how much per crown?

I have used Monica for simple things, not crowns and very pleased with her. Just don't know if she does crowns and if so how good.

I have used Dr. Morel for implants and root canals. Highly recommend him.

And I now have Humano so I wonder how much they cover.

In the States they want approximately $1000 per crown - expect it's less in the DR, but I don't want the service to be less either.

Thanks for any input.

The specialist at Monica's office who does crowns does not take insurance, so they did not get my business. Monica is a good dentist and used to work at the office of Dr Nieves Pappaterra in Gaspar Hernandez. Their overall quote was also higher than the one I went with below just a short distance away.

I used the services of the new satellite office at Dr Nieves Pappaterra in Sosua located at the entrance of the Pappaterra Ferreteria for a root canal followed by a crown and have Humano which they accepted. The full cost was 29,200 for the root canal and a porcelain crown of which insurance paid 10,120 and I paid 19,080. (That would have been a total cost of $674 US for both the root canal in a molar and the crown without insurance.)

The work was done well as far as I can tell.

Thanks. I have experience wiith both dentists I mentioned, but so good to know of the one local, Winde, thanks so much.

And I will email Morel and call Monica as well as Nieves (maybe you could give me his number and whether he or anyone in his office speaks English) to check it all out.

Thanks again. DR1 is for me back to what it's original purpose was - helping expats!

I recently cracked a molar, cost me $1,750 USD for the build-up and crown, here in NJ. Same dentist charges $145 for a cleaning - compare that with $1000 pesos [about $25] at our DR dentist. Since winde's work also included a root canal, sounds like a bargain to me.

Expect it to cost less a lot less. Be willing to accept less quality you might find that too.

You will get excellent quality crowns with the latest materials using 3D CEREC and Zicron crowns etc. You just need to go to Dental Cibao Spa or similar level clinic.

That's possible anywhere in the world, I've had some less than good work in the US too.

This past January half of a porcelain filling fell out [in DR]. Went to dentist in SD, very small place, 2 rooms, one dentista. Very professional, I watched her like a hawk, replaced the filling with another porcelain filling [I pay almost $200 for one in US] and charged me 1500 pesos - less than $40.

I agree. But, the probability of good work is better in the US.

Like you I watch them like a hawk US or DR.

My crowns in the US have been $2000 each. But covered by ins.

Which US Insurance company covers $2,000 for a crown?
Even the best coverage, that I know of has a MAX per crown covered in the neighborhood of $500.

I had some emergency bonding done by Dra. Monica, and it was as good as my NYC dentist and 1/8th the cost.

My dentist on Santiago who did my implants was the best. My US periodontist saw the xrays afterwards and was very impressed. However, insurance in the US is about 60% at best with a cost of anywhere from $1350 to $2000 per crown finished.

I don't want to substitute quality for price - I think it's possible to have both and in the DR.

That's why I'm asking for recommendations - and I also sent an email to Dr. Morel to see what his pricing is. It's not a hardship for me to take the bus to Santiago, his office is directly across the street, and his procedures/offices are the most sanitary I've seen anywhere in the DR or US.

Medical mutual paid the majority and the balance was paid by the employer (school employee - not like most employee plans).

related to the 29,200 i'm sure to have paid less than that.... with salud bucale in santo domingo and ARS Humano... - Sure if you compare with US price you are 100% right

Did you notice I had both a root canal and a crown? It included a post inserted in the center of the remaining part of the tooth as well.

The quote from Monica was higher by quite a bit , she did not take insurance and she said she did not do crowns and root canals but the specialist did. So that is conflicting information based upon another poster's experience. That was my information based from June of this year.

Odd that she told me she does neither, but a specialist does and that specialist did not take insurance. That was what I was told in June when I visited the office.

If you were closer to La Romana, I could give you a great recommendation (also takes Dominican insurance, if you have it).

FYI, I sent an email from this board to Dental Cibao Spa regarding approximate costs for build up and crowns per each tooth, and they have not responded. It has me questioning their professionalism.

When did you send it and to what email address?

I know right now they are on vacation, so that maybe a factor.

Trust me, you will not find a more professional dental clinic.
I have visited many all over the DR the past 15+ years.
