From today's Sosua News:

The volunteers of the foundation 'Sos?aKids' have been able to hand out this year, school equipment to 630 children. It was not just the children of Sos?a, but also to children from Cam?, two locations in Sabaneta, La Cienaga in Cabarete, Montellano and 'Casa de Los Ni?os Felices', an orphanage in Sos?a. 550 children received redeemable Casa Nelson vouchers for school supplies and uniforms, valued 1,600 pesos each. The school equipment consists of a school uniform and notebooks, books and writing utensils. The department store will account for a 10% discount. In addition, thanks to donations of school uniforms and backpacks 80 children could be given school equipment. This all came about thanks to the efforts of volunteers like Michelle Bennett

(Michelle came over specially from Canada to assist in the presentation of the school supplies) and Janet Williams (Chairwomen of Sos?aKids). But there are so many people to thank for making this all possible and some of them should not go unmentioned: Foundation help 'Sos?akids to School' from Holland, 'Beyond the Beach', 'The Mt. Cervezaria Annual Fund Raiser' in Calgary, 'The Pipestone Golf Links Texas Scramble Fund Raiser' in Millet, AB. And one last note, we have been told that in late August the stores in the US and Canada put the back packs on sale for $2 or $3 dollars, if any visitor to Sos?a would like to help, a backpack or two might fit into their suitcases. Sos?aKids is now out of backpacks and need to start getting them for next year.

Do they have an online site like GoFundMe? I notice many of the stores in the US have Composition books for 50 cents each now for the back-to-school sales. Thinking about bringing some carpenter's pencils down next trip and maybe a box of golf pencils..

Janet Williams is an amazing person. She works incredibly hard on Sosua Kids. I love her to death. Please support Sosua Kids...much good is done by her and the rest of the volunteers.
