Miley Cyrus concert banned in DR

The Miley Cyrus concert had been programmed for 13 September at the Quisqueya Ball Park in Santo Domingo. But the Comision Nacional de Espectaculos Publicos y Radiofonia says that it is its responsibility to prevent the presenting in the Dominican Republic of shows that offend public morals, with actions that promote sex and violence that have been presented in past Cyrus concerts.

There are daily programs that feature nothing but booty shaking, twerks and kootchie krunches on Dominican TV. The censors prefer to be appalled at a foreigner doing the same in a slightly different way, it appears.

I do not see this as a free speech issue or anything that is going to change the moral tone of public spectacles. It is more like a meaningless gesture to the members of the rich folks who fear that their youngsters will be overcome with fits of twerking and booty grinding.
