    Default Thread with School Costs

Someone posted a very good breakdown of school expenses about a week ago. I've searched but can't find it. Any one remember where it is.

I didn't see the previous thread. My foundation helped 84 school kids last year. This year, we decided not to take on that project, and instead, only helped a handful of our involved families. From my experience both last year and this year, you can buy a uniform, shoes, a backpack, and all notebooks, pens, pencils, erasers, etc., for about 3,000 pesos, if you shop in the right places.

The government is providing uniforms and shoes for 600,000 public school children. I'm sure all the teacher's children will have first dibs. Hopefully they will allocate by need. Uniforms at our school minus the shoes and Khaki pants is 1100 pesos. That's two polo shirts, a tee-shirt and sports pants. Text books are free at public schools, and we get ours from the governments so don't charge as it is illegal to do so. Some private schools use the government textbooks and charge a rental fee ( illegal)
notebooks are anywhere from 25-70 pesos each and how needed depends on the grade. Pens and pencils are pretty cheap - 10 pesos, erasers 6-10 pesos.

The boy is 5. He lives in the Campo. Supposedly it's cheaper to get the stuff in SD. Thanks Bob.

Ok so I answer this the 21st century, with visual proof. Might as well use the camera on my phone for something other than selfies. Here is a list of actual expenses for third grade at a private colegio, about 7000 pesos. Note this is minus two text books so add about 1000 pesos as they are the cheaper ones :

Here is the list expenses for shoes(1) , school uniform (3 pair), gym sweats (1) and gym tshirt (2). List is for 2 kids so divide price in half, about 3000 pesos.
