Hello.
I will be on Vacation in the Rius in Maimon in October. While i am there I want to visit a friend that live in a campo 20 Miles south of Nagua.
I am not sure i want to travel by bus because i think i have to switch quite some buses and guagua on the route and have no clue if it even is possible to catch some back in the evening.

Because of that i like to use a taxi which ofc has its price. i found some cell numbers from taxistas in the www and talked to them per whatsapp. They want 200-250 US for the 2 Rides. i could negiocate some to a price of 130 US for a 2way Ride starting in the morning and back in the evening.

So is 130 US a OK Price or can anyone recommend a Taxista with better rates?

the guagua system is good.... POP to Rio San Juan change to the Nagua Guagua... not hard

there are people on here who may offer their services too.

RSJ to Nagua is about 200 pesos..... similar from POP to RSJ

500 pesos..... 3 hours maybe.... less than 4..... use 4 to be safe

Its called Villa Riva. It would be ok to be back at midnight. But also could leave there a bit earlier.

Mhh cant find out how to edit my post. because that here is another one. Yes i did read i have to switch guaguas in riu san juan. And of course again in nagua to get to the campo or i use a publico or something there. but my main problem is that i just do not know how good the public transport is when it is getting late. when i want to leave there at 8 or 9pm. Will there be guaguas back from nagua to pop? Somewhere else i did read after dusk there might be not much public transport.

That will be a long day..... especially since u need to get from maimon to POP, and the same when u come back.
Pick a caba?a in Nagua and stay there if u friends cant put u up for the night.
It starts getting dark around 1900, and I woudnt want to be changing guagua and or carro publico in the dark at san juan and again at PoP. Neither would I want to be in an unknown taxi at those times either.

Be best to spend the night as suggested and then you can do the guagua thing real easy and cheap.

Schumi I am not sure where you got the idea from but anyone on this board that live between GPH and Nagua will tell you that its not a good idea to be traveling on the roads that late at night. Dominicans won't do it so you should not! Make it a 2 day travel stay in Nagua overnight.

I was already thinking about staying the night in nagua. I do not want to spent the night at the campo because no hot water for shower and no luz which i am not used to as european.

From hotel to pop is a 50-70 peso ride which i did many times. thats the not tricky part. They taxistas i did talk to all had homepages in the internet with airport transport services etc. so i atleast hope they are trustworthy lol. when i add the guagua cost + the cost to the parada de gua gua and from nagua to the campo i might as well take the taxi. we are 2 persons. when i add the cost 2 way for 2 persons i get close to 4mil pesos. then the 130 us for the taxi sounds pretty good. it is a bit quicker and more comfortable. what you guys think? is 130 us a good rate to get there and back

I live close to Villa Riva. The best i would suggest take the carro publico from POP to Sosua, then the guagua to Rio San Juan. From RSJ take the other guagua to Nagua and ask the driver to be drop at the salida para San francisco de Macoris. When youare in Nagua on the exit side towards SFM there is a lot of guagua and beleave me they drive like Fantom jet. Most of them
they go to Villa Riva and half of them goes to SanFrancisco de Macoris. Spend your time in Villa Riva and late afternoon ask
your friends to bring you at the Shalom hotel in l Abanico. That hotel is very comfortable and safe, 400 pesos a night. Early
morning return the same way. Leave early from POP. Takes 3 hours to Villa Riva

I used to live in El Pozo about 30 minutes south of Nagua. All gua gua's stop running about 6:30 pm in this area for
safety reasons and usually start running in the morning around 6:00am. Gua gua from POP to Rio San Juan is around
100 pesos. They leave from the main highway 5 (Avienda Circunvalacion Sur) just to the left of the Hospital Provincial
Dr. Ricardo Limardo. They run like every 20 minutes or so. Once you get into Rio San Jaun the gua gua takes directly to
the station you simply change gua gua's for Nagua, they run about every 20 minutes as well. The second leg of the trip
is 125 pesos and the gua gua driver will usually drop you off at your desired location in Nagua. Just tell the driver you
need to change gua gua's that you are heading to San Francisco De Macoris. I'm not sure how much you'll have to pay for the third leg of your trip but I think its about 100 pesos if your not going all the way to SF (Nagua to San Francisco De Macoris in gua gua was 125 last time I went in November) .
This area is very scenic. The roads/ Dominican driving skills can be... very entertaining. Most of these areas in the mountains
lack the basic necessities a lot of people take for granted so be prepared to see how most Dominicans live once you step
outside the touristy areas. Some of my best friends on the island come from this area. If it weren't for certain job related
resources I must have access to, I'd still be living south of Nagua.

Chartering a taxi (should you decide to) may be a good idea depending on a how much time
you have and how much money you have to spend. Before contacting a taxi service I would try some of the driver's
mentioned above by other DR1 posters. I hope you go using the local transportation so you can post all of your wonderful
travel adventure's later for us (there's always a few) on the forum. Good luck.

For 1500 pesos you can rent a 2006 Honda CVS? CRV? I don't know exactly what it is called. at Lujo rent a car in POP and drive whatever hours you choose. The rental is for 24 hours so if you drive away at noon you have until noon the nest day to return it. Call 809-664-0458.

I would never ever sit in front of a steering wheel in a car in the dominican repuplic. This wont happen. The Traffic is the reasson why all locals believe in dios that much :p
