AI employment for Dominicans

With all of the staffing needs that the AI's have, especially in the Punta Cana Bavaro area with new resorts constantly opening, is their an employment agency where employers can go to replenish their staff? You would think that the agencies could screen for criminal backgrounds, skill levels, experience and health concerns among other things. Also, Dominicans seeking this type of employment could go to a few large agencies instead of having to go from resort to resort looking for an opening. You would also think that a resort with hundreds of rooms would be overwhelmed doing the avertising/posting of jobs, screening, and hiring in house. Comments from anyone on the board having any knowledge of this process would be greatly appreciated.

The buddy system is employed heavily as well. Folks already on the inside find out when someone is quitting, sometimes even before management does, and has their friend contact a manager immediately.

Long Lines

The resorts do their own hiring. You are aware of hiring days when you see long lines of hopefuls applying for service jobs; their hands full of documents at the employee and service entrances of the A1's .

Applicants for formal and executive jobs are obtained via corporate recruiters, retained recruiters; internally within resort chain, thru word of mouth, networking, or advertisement. Cold call applicants are rarely received unless they have a very needed and specialized craft. The A1's have the attitude of we call you, you do not call on us.

With the size of the potential talent pool, there are so many people out of work that they can afford to pick and choose.

The vast majority of workers in PC live in Higuey. All the hotels have transportation to and from Higuey on a regular basis for the workers. Some hotels have housing near the hotel for people from other cities. The hotels are always receiving applicants for work, mostly from Higuey and the Capital.
