Hoping for a heads up of any unforeseen troubles. She will have letter to travel, all paperwork in order and an escort. I think what could go wrong. Then I remember where I am. Thanks in advance. canned oj

From my experiences - eons ago - the larger problem is at the send off end.

After the permission letter and who to hand off to at the delivery end,
we handed the girls to a flight attendant - they were pre-boarded

The disembark last - they are never unattended - ours even had a tag around their neck w/ ticket and ID

You may need to prove/identify yourself for the pickup... thats all.

Not bad - the airlines are good at it

Its honestly not that bad. I've traveled alone 3 times now from ages 15-17. The airport does not hassle you if you have all your papers in check and that you show that you know what you're doing. Once i got out the airport (On both sides, USA or DR) i normally picked up a cab or got a ride from whoever came to pick me up

edit: the last time i traveled was fairly recent, being in august 2014. I was with my younger sister (9 years old i think) and i was 16. The airport in DR did not give me much trouble since i had all my papers in order and US customs cleared me without any problems.
But then again, i did not have an escort.

We sent my son many times, never a problem as long as you had all the paperwork to fly in order. :)

Glad to hear of no horror stories. Performs as advertised. Was thinking the send off would be the difficult part with paper checking and such.

If they are travelling from the US, you need a notarized letter(or letters), from the parents/guardians stating that permission is given for the minor to travel alone. It also must state the name and passport/cedula # of the person meeting them at the airport. When checking in for the flight, the parent with the minor is given a gate pass, and must stay with the minor until they have boarded. On the other end, the person meeting them upon arrival should go to the airline desk, identify themselves, and explain that they are picking up an unaccompanied minor. They will be given a pass as well, and should be allowed to greet the minor before baggage claim. Check with the airline office in the airport of arrival for specific instructions, as they all have differnt meeting spots where the children are turned over to the responsible party.
