www.
This will depend on your doctor. My regular doctors (endocrinologist and gynaecologist) have never ordered them. But when I did the VIP Plan at Cedimat they were recommended and available at Cedimat.

Yes....they are available at vaccination centers of the government and at many doctors. The allergy doctor of my son offered them at RD$1500. (no thank you).

I happened to be in the US visiting family so able to get the shot there. Otherwise I would gladly have paid RD$1500.

I do not have a "regular" medico yet as I haven't needed one. I have met the local roadside witch doctor so I'll stop in and ask him how best to find the shot and when it is usually available. As I get older I'm all for doing what I can not to get sick.

Has anybody noticed all the sniffling tourists that seem to show up here in the winter months carrying who knows what? ;)

Here is a Suggestion to all DR1ers who live in the DR, or spend a large part of their year here.
GET A DOCTOR!!!
Find a good Primary Care Doctor, BEFORE you need one, especially in an EMERGENCY!
That way, they will KNOW who you are, your medical history, medications, and more about you.
They can refer you to any specialists you may need.
When you have chest pains at 3 am, its NOT the time to look for a good cardiologist!!!
If you ALREADY have a cardiologist who knows you, he/she may be in the ER waiting for you when you get there.
Otherwise you get to an ER, they go look for a doctor, wake them up, and you get doctor,?FULANO De Tal",who will probably know as much about heart disease as you do, very possibly LESS!!!!
Trust me on THIS ONE!!!!!!

Dominicans do not need flu shots. They just stay out of the rain and avoid the grippe. Being a gringo and liking the rain I get one every year. If anyone needs an excellent g.p. try Dr. Mejia at clinica Brugal in PP. Speaks good english.

I agree with cccc. The first year we came to Sosua On the 2nd day I had a severe shoulder separation requiring surgery.
We first met Dr. Reyes an ortho surgeon. We have since visited CMC in Sosua on 4 different occasions and having a relationship with Dr Reyes has proved very advantageous.. He has seen that we get very good treatment as he has a hard time believing how a Canadian woman can break her ankle in DR 3 years in a row.
Earlier this year as previously reported my wife was in CMC for 3 days. THey accurately tested and diagnosed her problem and treated her properly which increased my confidence . Sorry to you CMC bashers we have only had good experiences with them and await your scorn.

As fun as it is, it's not a good idea to feed the trolls...

I've heard nothing but good things about CMC. I don't know why we as firstworld'ers have this notion that doctors are infallible deities to be worshiped on a pedestal? In every group there are the good, the bad and the in betweens.

When we need medical help, we should view it as any other interaction with another human being - we may be disappointed with the outcome. There are no guarantees and doctors like plumbers or any other profession can and do make mistakes from time to time.

CMC is in my opinion the best choice for critical care in Puerto Plata province and we are so fortunate to have it right here in our own back yard.

I shall make you wait no longer. They tortured my daughter, sent her home casted in a position in which her leg was absolutely out of alignment, and the director is an arrogant child. Thankfully, I was able get copies of the xrays and know how to read them. Had we not gone to HOMS for the correct treatment, she would have required surgery, and would have taken much longer to heal.

The staff at HOMS could not believe CMC sent her home in the condition she was in.

As well as a doctor make sure you have a good (local) insurance if you are here long, CMC for example costs a fortune, as a gringo they just throw in a lot of extra tests, supplies and what not for good measure - some insurance companies no longer pay for CMC, check first.
