Some may remember... in 2007 a little Dominican girls, barely dressed, barely 6 years old wandered into my life and eventually into my heart. A typical "de criancia"... the fine way to say "ditched" from one dysfunctional family into another... used by a Coastal SankyPanky "family" as their private "Cinderella" .
I had to beg for them to allow me to school the girl (which they said, was to dumb for that), fight their "Tigueraje" and repeated attacks and sabotaging actions.
The mother... well, I won't elaborate... but 3 years ago, at least I could persuade her to leave the girl with me, to which she agreed if I took up her older sister too.
Over 2 years ago, the mother left to the US.

Anyways... she is 13 now, calls me "Papa" and has been a loving child known to my other kids. Her sister is 15 and has asked me if she could call me likewise a year ago. They are great are school and everywhere I go, people make compliments about how well behaved and loving they are.

I recently married. Hey, I've been living here almost 8 years and chosen C A R E F U L L Y . ;)

I NEED to formalize the relationship with the two girls. I have to travel to the US en Europe often and I think they ought to be part of some of the trips.

I understand that in principle, it is said that under DR law one can not adopt a particular child, a child is assigned to adoption instead. But I know that people have been able to legally adopt children they knew and specifically wished to adopt.

I am looking for a REPUTED lawyer (his work will be scrutinized by my personal lawyers here in the US and here in the DR!) who is SPECIALIZED and has a SUCCESS track record in adoption maters.

Please PM.

If you feel compelled to opine about what I am doing, please FIRST do a SEARCH about me and what I have posted about her in 2007 thru 2010:

If you don't know me from my past history on here (2007 and up) or personally, and you have questions about my person, pleas PM and I will be happy to answer.

Thanks! ... J-D.

I'm so happy to hear the girls are still with you, and hope everything goes smoothly with the adoption process.

I'm still in contact with "Juanita" on Facebook, let me know if you want her contact info, she's now living in Canada with her daughter and adopted son - who is thriving.

Your case is NOT what Conani would call somebody looking to adopt some children, but a guardian/parent looking to formalize what's already an established family link and parental rights beyond just circumstances happened.

Your case is far from unique for Conani, however you legal status/residency/citizenship is not the norm for cases just like yours.

You already have a parent-kids relationship with them, hard to see them breaking that under any conditions.

Get a reputable lawyer and soldier on!

I commend your goal! Great parent!

Thanks to all for the thumbs up and nice comments... appears that some of "way back then" still are around and even remember.

Pichardo. Yes, I have been suggested exactly what you allude to, by one lawyer in Santo Domingo I got referred to by his famed colleague Dra. Yadira Morel (immigration). But when I asked him to take on the case he "did not have time" for it.
As in all legal things in these countries, the key is to have professional counsel on ones side.
And as Mofongo correctly warned, sadly in this country, one has to be extra cautious when it comes to retain the services of such counselor. So, I am looking for referrals, recommendations, directions.

I am certain it can be done, legally. But I also know, that for an endeavor like this one, and to make it happen in a useful time frame, one needs someone of experience in that particular field but also with the necessary connections, "weight", "influence". And that's whom I am looking for at this point.

Thanks! ... J-D.

J-D I have a contact who works with Conani arranging adoptions. I went through the whole process to adopt my husbands 2 chidren which I brought up from age 9 and 10 and gave up when the oldest was 18. I used a supposedly specialist lawyer. PM me your email and I will send you her details.

hi j-d, I may be helpful in your search for a good HONEST well qualified lawyer. I am now (for three years!) embroiled in an adoption process. short story----------I am trying to adopt my dominican wife's two children. I have not as yet been able to get an answer from the adoption court(CONANI?) and it's getting quite frustrating. When these children are finally adopted, they will be eligible for a sizeable aid to dependent children pension from Social Security.. Anyway I was interested in your info about not being able to adopt a particular child? Could you elaborate? Thank You. I will be glad to talk with my lawyer and have her contact you. please reply by email to Gregorio.Boyd@gmail.com. Thanks
