Now that Whatsapp is charging a dollar, will you be paying it or switching?

The one I'm looking at so far is Kik and surprisingly BBM, but what is the defecto standard now?

I feel I should point out that, in your search for a replacement, you've probably spent more than $1 of your time. Whatsapp is ad-free, and that's not worth $1/year? Or are there other issues that make it not worth subscribing?

WhatsApp IS the standard, everybody and their cousins are using it! That said, there are so many messengers, it's ridiculous. I believe it's easier to use whatever is the main one for the time being, because it's convenient.

I agree. Due to its sheer popularity, I feel it's worth the $1.00 per year. That's less that $0.09 per month. I think I can make that fit into my budget!

I have been using Whatsapp for years and they have yet to charge me.
Other than that, I use Viber.

I use Viber - free texting, free calls with other viber contacts, and video chat.

I keep Viber around on my phone as well, but only for the free voice calls. It does do everything Whatsapp does, but I've been trained to hit the Whatsapp icon after so many years.
