I might have submitted this thread in the wrong spot earlier today: History of the RD.
But my interest is in finding out if anyone out there in " Forum Land " has any knowledge about the musical history of the Republica Dominicana. Were there any instruments that are unique to the country ? Are there any clubs or locals venues ( SD? ) that play the " old style " music on a regular basis ?
I am not musically inclined myself. In fact, my mother who was so inclined once told me in my youth that I was " tone deaf " after trying to teach me various musical instruments. However, I do have some friends who visit me that are extremely interested in researching early Latin American / Caribbean music. They travel though out these countries ( Peru, etc. ) recording " old style " renditions.
Take care you all and the best to everyone for the New Year from the Frontier.
