How far and how many hours from
Punta Cana to drive to puerto plata

You can do it in 5 if you know the route. If it's for a chica it's not worth the stretch. Always have them come to you. It's much easier to send them home on the bus.

No need to go thru SD.... new toll road after the airport ~450 pesos to NAGUA will save you time

my 4 hrs is by that road add almost an hour if using Tashi's route

we have soooo much inaccurate information posted here...... DR1.... hard to keep track of anything

I posted something about that in the casa de conductor thread....

that casa crap is for STI and SD only...... the rest of the country just puts you in jail, regardless

derf... Punta Cana is east of the airport.... the driver will proceed west to SDQ and then north to Hwy#5 at Nagua

Follow the north coast road to POP

not many turns to remember

Here are the three legs of the journey with approximate driving times.

Punta Cana to Las Americas/Samana highway turnoff = 2 hrs
Samana Highway = 1 hr
Samana Highway turnoff to Puerto Plata = 2 hrs

Maybe someone can post a map.

A lot of misinformation.
The toll road is near SDQ as Will said. PC to Toll Road Entrance, 2.5 hours; Toll Road to North Coast highway to Puerto Plata, 3.25 hours, so just under 6 hours by car depending on stops. There are rest stops with fuel and clean bathrooms on the toll road and bring 500 Pesos in small denominations for tolls.

From Punta Cana just take the Autovia del Este to Santo Domingo, but you don't have to get all the way to SD. Just as you pass the Las Americas airport exit and toll booth you will find the exit to Autopista Saman? (officially Juan Pablo II highway), which will take you all the way to Nagua. Once in Nagua turn left and enjoy the scenary all the way to Cabrera, Rio San Juan, Cabarete, Sosua and finally Puerto Plata. Beautiful road trip, if you ask me...
