Since I came back to dr in 2010 pan de agua has been 5 pesos, and although 40% is a big increase, it surprised me the price hadn't changed before.

The pieces did become a bit smaller though in some supermarkets.

Pan de Agua is about the only passable bread in DR.

And yet the price of the ingredients has dropped.

We must stop the capitalista running dogs from taking over the bread industry.

You're obviously one of the Bread Alliance Operatives.

The price of everything has gone up. We sell juice and toasted ham and cheese sandwiches to the children. We barely break even, probably don't when you consider the wages of the staff preparing the food. The prepared juice is Petit brand- has gone up 80 pesos for a box of 24.
That is just one example- price of oil, ketchup, mayo...up.

Most of the food we buy in store has gone up. I noticed just this morning that a can of pink salmon was 29 pesos more than it was last time they had it in stock in December.

in the light of recent increase if ITBIS on certain products the producers of bread decided to raise the prices. pan de agua will go up by 2 pesos. the date when new prices are introduced is not yet known.
Productores acuerdan aumentar a RD7.00 el precio del pan - listindiario.com
of course should the government want to discuss this issue they are open for dialogue. i assume the producers are looking for subsidies.

A bread machine is very cheap, if you buy it in the US. I make my own bread. I have this one at home

i think that 150 dollars is a lot of money for someone who can barely afford 7 pesos bread bun.

yup...they can?t affod a seven peso bread, so buy a 150 dollar machine, then the ingredients, plus the electricity costs.

that?ll solve it.

I believe the average annual rate of inflation for food prices in the DR is about 10%

And it will cost way more than seven pesos per loaf.. I pay $15-$20 for 50 pound bags of bread flour in the US.
