"Stuff" for sale - South Coast - AD #5957 pending publication

Selling several items in San Cristobal Province, south coast, about 30-45 minutes west of Santo Domingo

1. WHIRLPOOL WASHING MACHINE - FULL SIZE, all the bells and whistles. Bought at La Sirena, used for 6 months, got here and no water was entering machine. Couldn't find serviceman, so bought a replacement - and when the new machine was hooked up had the same problem, no water. Turned out it was a problem with the voltage regulator for our house, not enough voltage to run machine, easy fix but now we have two washers. Couldn't return the new one, so our loss is your gain. Machine is 27,000 pesos new, first 10,000 takes it.

2. MARINE WINDWILL - Southwest Windpower Windmill, Air Industrial, set for 24 volts, looks like this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/48V-Southwe...253?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item58a500449d. Asking 15,000 pesos.

3. SOLAR PANEL PACKAGE: 6 Sharp solar panels, 224 W each, two Outback Controllers [MX 80 & MX 60], cables and connectors. $3,000USD. Will consider selling only the panels if you don't need the controllers. Panels still in boxes they were shipped here in. Outback controllers are top of the line: http://www.outbackpower.com/outback-products/charge-controllers/item/flexmax-6080?category_id=438

4. APC Battery Backup/UPS: BACK-UPS ES750, brought down brand new, yesterday hooked it up and it will not work with our inverter. Perfect for someone who doesn't have an inverter to power their computer during outages. Exactly like this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-APC-Bac...220?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item339f0cd44c I threw away the box, but have all the cables and instructions. $30 USD

Some of the DR1 experts will chime in, I'm far from that. These should power a house easily, not sure about AC as we don't have any in our home.

Those 6 panels @ 224 Wp aligned well (azimuth and angle) will give you about 8.85 kWh/day (approx. 265 kWh/month) on average.
That's much too little to run A/C.

Would those panels be good for charging batteries on an invertor system used for bridging outages? Or selling unused power to power company?

Even if you had enough panels to have excess power at certain times of the day, there is no plan in place to sell it back to the power company in the DR that I have heard about.

6 panels is just a start for an installation for anyone used to living normally. 12 panels will be a good goal for those living efficiently and in a sunny area. For my uses, about 20 would be needed and I just don't have the room for 20 panels.
If you were pushing the 700 kWh monthly limit where your bill skyrockets, then 6 panels might give you some head room on that.

It is done in Las Terrenas, though.

We, however, do not do it, as we are not connected to the local grid.
And that is good.

Haha, we're not going anywhere.

We ended up with two big washers because we didn't realize there was an electrical problem.

The solar package was brought down, and we decided not to put it up because our house is very close to our rambunctious neighbors, and the kids are always throwing rocks at the mango trees to knock down fruit, and half of the rocks end up on our roof. After Mr. AE saw the size of some of them [the rocks, not the kids :)]he decided it was too dangerous to put the panels up there because they'd probably be shattered by the darlings next door.

Again, obnoxious Dominicans ruin everything. Children terrorizing their neighbors and causing grave property damage are usully dealt with by the law in the civilized world. This is completely unacceptable.
Again,

Again,

Well, those brats are brought up as 'chivos sin ley' and behave that way until they die. :tired:

My wife tells me, that kids used to be much better educated and neighbours were able to settle kids' problems among them. Nowadays a well deserved slap in the face results in a col?n' wielding father or the mother runs straight to the fiscal...
