Nice Communist Fluff Piece. Too bad, so sad. If the D.R. had been allowed to go the way of Cuba, the development of the island would have been delayed for generations, just like in Cuba. My neighbor, in the U.S. was in the U.S. Army in 1965 and flew DAILY from Fort Bragg, North Carolina to distribute food, clean water and candy for the children. His recollection, now that he's in his 70's is that the Dominican population was very accepting the the presence of the Americans and grateful for their help with food, water and sanitation at that time. Funny how different people can have different perspectives on the same situation, especially when they're "boots on the ground" rather than sitting in some "think tank" thousands of miles away.

Agreed. Mr. AE was a teenager in 1965, living near the malecon in Santo Domingo. I'll take his version of what it was like over a Communist view. He says there were some people who resented the invasion, because the people were angry that the Air Force Generals called the Americans in to stop their rebellion. He doesn't believe the country would have turned Communist if the US hadn't intervened, although he acknowledges there are some who think it would have.
