Anyone know if there are any good long term residential care facilities in the DR. We have a niece who was severely brain damaged during birth. She is 8 years old now and so far our family has taken care of her. Since we are not here 365 we are concerned about her welfare since she has break out seizures and takes meds. Did not find anything so far on Google. Thanks for any help.

where are you located? there are charitable organizations taking care of kids like that. for example this: https://es-es.facebook.com/Fundacioncasadeluz
more details here: Proyecto de Ayuda al Ni?o (PAN) - MI CASA DE LUZ
maybe these folks can help too: Inicio
or la casa rosada: https://www.facebook.com/pages/La-Casa-Rosada/342669609252073 (although this one is dedicated to kids with HIV/aids)

there is a list of various charitable organizations of DR here: Organizaciones Benficas de Republica Dominicana. Livio.com

Thanks for that. We are in Sosua but the quality of care is more important to us than the location. How in h did you find all that stuff so fast. Maybe I need search lessons.

You might want to investigate Mustard Seed in Montellano. They care for children with multiple handicaps, physical and mental. Usually, the child goes there permanently, but there was a case several years ago where a father continued to help pay for the child's care.

You could probably hire 2 domestic employees to provide 24/7 care for 20 k a month at your own home. That would be far better than leaving her unattended and out of sight.

you guys are great. Thanks for the help. This far we have managed with our family but I worry that when we are not here and watching the level of care drops. My wife is on the leads and I will let you know what works out. Thanks again for all yout time and ideas.
