Did the electric company change their rates or something? I pay my bill every month on time, but they stuck me with a 14,000 bill from last month. So I have to pay 9,000 for this month plus 14,000 for last month even though I already payed last months bill.
I thought it was a mistake, but another lady said the same thing happened to her. The company said they're making a "correction". Maybe I should stop being so honest and get free electricity like everyone else. No wonder Dominicans steal electricity. Even if you pay you're still screwed.

They fail to actually read the ever every month. They just charge about what you usually pay, if they are too low, your bill will be higher when they read it.
I pay about 17 to 19 thousand a month. One month it was only 4,000, next month it was "Normal" again.

But then again it is 66 degrees in my bedroom at night!!!!!!

To visit Protecom, you first need to place a claim with the power distributor and see what they say. In the past I have placed many claims and believe in all cases they gave me credits for increases in the bill. So far so good. It is true as said above that the power company may not read your bill and just pay based on what you usually pay. That means it is bad news if on one month your bill goes up. The average will affect what you pay.
Do not let the extra RD$5,000 go unprotested or it will become what you usually pay.

We only run our a.c. For an hour or sometimes two when we come home, but our bills is only 5,000 less then yours. We're considering buying those solar curtains( the ones that deflect the ultraviolet heat). They seem to work in a couple of hotels I visited. And get solar just for the a.c.
But I bet they still will find a way to over charge. They're sneaky. A truck hit the electric pole twice and both times they installed a new meter. We all know about those new meters and how they jack up the rates. And you're right. I can't recall the last time we seen them read the meter.

Did you use more than 700kw? If so you lost the subsidies on that bill and were charged 11.10 on all KW used.

EDESTE RESIENTIAL PRICING:

Meter Base Fee: 137.25
0 - 200 KW = 4.44
201 - 300 = 6.97
301 - 695 = 10.86
700 and above = all kw billed at 11.10

So 699 KW will cost you $6,055.39 wheras just one more KW used - (700 KW) will cost you 7,907.25

The unit for electrical labour is kWh, even if the Dominicans just call it "kilo".

I would not care if the screwed me each month if they just gave 24\7 service. They just don't understand how to screw people in the right way. Good service ill pay more for that. No they have to steel from you the Dominican way!
