anyone has recommendation on a shoulder specialist?

I have severe osteo-arthritis in that shoulder and I am starting to investigate shoulder replacement as in prosthesis. First I would like someone to first do an MRI to ensure there is no rotator cuff tear, do the repair if possible, help me regain as much range of motion as possible (I think I need a receta for physiotherapy?) and then as a last resort go the shoulder replacement route.

Preferably in Santiago? I am assuming nobody can do that in Puerto Plata. Ok, I will travel to SD.

Any leads please?

Thank you!

Maybe get in touch with JR Hartley from this site. He got shot not so long ago, I think in the shoulder. He lives in Sosua so might be lucky.

Bushbaby in Puerto Plata had shoulder surgery at Bournigal, but I do not recall the surgeon's name. You could try sending him a message too.

Bushbaby was NOT a good patient and the work don on him was to mend
a bdroken collarbone. BUT he insisted in playing golf, the goof...had all kinds of
complications.

I think I would go to the Union M?dico and see the guy that renewed Bartolo Colon's
pitching arm...he is good and the proof is now one of the better pitchers in the Bigs.

Otherwise, I would see Dr. Enrique Anico in Centro Medico Cibao on Juan Pablo Duarte (Across from the Texaco Station_)
He is very good.

Cordially,

You definitely need the MRI/CAT Scan to confirm the amount of arthritis there. I had Resection arthroplasty: This procedure involves surgically removing bone from your collarbone. In its place, scar tissue develops, which helps arthritis of specific joints.
While not 100% it is almost pain free now.

Total shoulder replacement is a complicated surgery that requires a long rehab and up to a year for full recovery. This surgery should only be done by an orthopedist who only performs shoulder surgery. Both my shoulders are bone on bone from years of workouts at the gym and even with the pain I have and unable to have a full nights sleep, I would only have the surgery as an absolute last resort. Physical therapists who work with patients who have had this surgery also agree with me. I personally would never let a doctor from the Dominican Republic perform this type of delicate surgery. I have done so much research and have had two consultations with the best shoulder replacement surgeons in N.Y.C. and I am still going to wait. Best of luck

I've had four shoulder operations and unfortunately non-surgical repair/therapy was not an option. I have been told that if I live long enough I will have to have shoulder replacement surgery for my right shoulder. I don't have the same issues with using a competent surgeon from the DR. I learned many years ago that great doctors come from many nations. My heart surgeon was from Greece, my last shoulder surgery was done by an excellent Iranian doctor...etc. He has done a number of shoulder replacement shoulders and he also agrees that it should be the option of last resort.

Yes total replacement would be last option. I already have 2 replaced knees so I am not looking forward to becoming more bionic. That is why I want the MRI and the physio to see if I can regain range of motion. I am well aware that an artificial shoulder only removes the pain and does not give back range of motion.

In terms of using doctors in the DR - yes I am nervous but look at the baseball pitcher that Hillbilly mentioned... thats a good recommendation.

Bob Saunders, did you get any of the surgeries in DR? Who did your resection arthroplasty?
