Can I get a pre-paid sim with internet, calls and texts. Say unlimited national calls and texts plus data for 1 month?

Yes with Claro pre paid. 500 mb of data for 30 days, cost Rd 450. ... Sms cost 3 pesos each with pre paid, and unlimited national calls on a pre paid, you must be joking.

Better get 1Gb for 650.00 pesos for 30 days and make sure you do not open youtube and do not surf in the web too much to last long your Gb, and sorry not unlimited calls or free sms, the cost per minute is 10.00 pesos within claro and like 13.00 pesos calling outside.

1 or 2 GB is enough for most people. 1gb usually last me 2 weeks. I wouldn't worry about minutes too much. You already have data so use WhatsApp(I think all Dominicans have WhatsApp) or something to make free calls, especially if you're connected to WiFi. Every since Imessage, hangouts (free u.s. calls), and WhatsApp came out, I never needed more then 200 minutes.

Thanks for the info. However most of the dominicans I know don't have smart phones so have to pay for calls.

Do they still require a foreigner to show passport?
I'm convinced the prepaid is intentionally slow. I went through 500mb in Colombia in a day.

Were you watching videos?

I connect to the 100MB/day plan, use WhatsApp & search the web for information occasionally and don't even hit 50MB for a day of moderate use.

500MB in a day is like using GPS, watching videos, sending videos, steaming content and similar stuff.

Most of the Dominicans that you know, which have cell phones, will have most likely have Whatsapp and possibly also Viber and maybe Line. They very much know and use the free voip apps for calls and messaging. At times, you may need to wait for them to be in a wifi area.... But they use Whatsapp a lot on their cell phones and now I do too...

Speaking for Sosua, Claro at Playero. Yes they do require you to show your passport.

With Claro, a minute is 6 pesos and you have to pay in multiples of 100 pesos.
I think something like 100MB of data is included, but not sure. Could be more. The SIM itself is 100 pesos.
If money matters, do not go by their advertised flyers. Otherwise go nuts... they have plans in excess of 1000 pesos if you need.
