Came back last night through SDQ to find that there were fingerprint scanners and cameras installed at all the immigration arrival booths but were not in use yet.

This must have happened in the last 10 days. The equipment is the older type you see when you get your diving license for example and it is a camera mounted on a tripod again like they have at the driving center.

Despite the flight arriving at 2am the immigration lines were quite long and slow moving as every passenger was checked thoroughly electronically. One woman in front of me had to wait several minutes whilst they checked her records before stamping the entry. For me my cards were checked, passport scanned and stamped very quickly as usual bit others were having a longer wait.

Hate to think what it will be like once they start scanning fingerprints etc.

This was reported in the press a few weeks back.

"Hope springs eternal!"

There will never be any changes at immigration. Oh, there are changes at immigration. They will never be able to swipe passports. Oh they're swiping passports. They will never be able to use the new computer system. Oh, they are using a new computer system. They'll never be able to eliminate the propina instead of the exit fee. Oh, now the cash is handled by someone else at a different window. They'll never implement fingerprint and photographs. Oh, there are now fingerprint machines and cameras at immigration. Never mind, that equipment will be broken soon...

I have a feeling that it will be quite a few more than 2. Probably not many large groups, but a few here and a few there over time. August is the month "they" said they would get busy. We'll see.

They were using the other window for exit fees but the last 2 passes (1 month ago) the other window was closed and the money went into the immigration guys pocket in front of me....no swipe of my passport but got a stamp.

You cannot resort to saying it is 'SPIN' when it is visibly in place at all the immigration booths at SDQ.

Took you 3 days to digest this PICHARDO prediction too!

So it is CC SPINNING this time with his agenda of denial of everything.

I guess this came as quite a shock to many thinking DR would not go to these lengths but it was widely reported in all the press and media outlets at the end of June that this would happen at all border control points. It is happening in other South and Central American countries too.

Captar?n huellas digitales a todo el que entre o salga del pa?s -

Not in use yet in SDQ.

As for other airports, we are told again today that Punta Cana is becoming an entry airport to USA so passengers avoid clearing US Immigration and Customs.....they will do that here........ so don't be surprised to see the newer biometric checking equipment there as in Miami operated in conjunction one resumes with US Border Control there very soon too.

One can only speculate at this moment, but perhaps you clear Dominican Exit Immigration first then go through US Entry Immigration in the separate room.

It is unlikely I will ever see that airport, so people will have to post how it is set up. But my point was about being a US Citizen with a US Salary living in the DR as a US Boarder Patrol Officer. That could be special.

This is old but new to some (don't pay attention to Crissy rants, for he's a bonafide DR resident already).

The pre-clearing of US Immigration and Customs in the DR will be expanded to include POP and SDQ. Flying from the DR to the U.S. will be just like flying between the U.S. and Puerto Rico or any other State of the Union.

As for entry and exit controls? Yup! They are gearing up towards full implementation to that end. We're waiting to have the system fully rolled out before we start the post-AMNESTY phase nation-wide.

Can you imagine people with a week holiday, arriving in the DR and having to spend 2 to 3 hours in the airport before leaving for their resort? A tourist expects to get through a fast as possible....like in most other resort destinations.

Wonder how they will handle cruise ship arrivals?
